Happy belated 7th anniversary to this 🧇🫶🏻 (though the last reply was posted on the 19th)

I came out of that theatre with a crush. It was the The Last Jedi that turned it into love ❤️ (then Rise of Skywalker broke heart but let's not get into that now...)

I’m pretty sure it all kicked off the moment he shifted our expectations and took off his helmet.

Then so many of us all collectively went “OH NO HE’S HOOOOT”

The straightforward answer on why I started shipping reylo though, was I came out of tfa totally obsessed with Kylo (not in an attraction way, in an "I'm mentally ill and going through something and this character shall be a vessel for that" way) (1/2)

Hoo boy, that’s a bit of a ride tbh. I was a little late because, while I’d seen the OT and episode 3, I just was not a SW fan at the time and didn’t expect to want to see TFA. Come Christmas that fateful December, and I decided to go and came out initially shipping FinnRey and JediStormPilot ->

saw this shot in the international trailer, went HMMM then somehow forgot about it???

went to see TFA, the forest scene intrigued me but when Ben took his helmet off I went “oh. OH.” absolutely couldn’t get their mental force fight out of my head and was searching the AO3 tag the next day

That movie put me through a roller coaster, loving and hating the character in turn, over and over, but by the end when he gave Rey that totally flabbergasted look when she got the saber - I knew the boy was down hard for her.

Rey didn't return that spark at all, thought, so I didn't expect much.

I remember first seeing the poster and wondering if they might go somewhere romantic with them because of their postions on it and their weapons being parallel. Dismissed it, until the forest scene on Takodona. Was like "oh", and then the interrogation scene, "I can show you the ways of the force".

I went into the midnight screening drunk, and came out still tipsy, arguing with my friends all the way home about why I thought rey and kylo should kiss (they didn’t agree with me)

chasing her into the forest and then looking her up and down sold me immediately 😌

Some people say the interrogation scene which I find meh tbh 🤷🏿‍♀️, for me it was the aftermath of the snow fight scene where Rey is standing ferally above him and Kylo's lying sprawled on the ground staring at her as if she's something sacred and holy

"What girl" had me 🤔

Then the capture and bridal carry had me sit up and lean forward in my seat

And finally the interrogation scene (with the oh no he's hot mask removal) had me fully freak out

The interrogation scene. It was so hot the way Kylo pulled off his mask--guh, he's hot!--and then the BDSM-ish nature of the interrogation just had my imagination going hard. I thought, why would you run away from HIM?

The Bridal Carry made me take notice & the rest of the film just made me a Reylo shipper before that name was even invented. Tumblr was THE place to find like minded people, but we were treating it as a crack ship, not knowing that Rian Johnson would make it real. The trailer for TLJ was eye opening

Saw TFA when it was out, aside from searching Ben Solo (the character who'd intrigued me most) on tumblr, I went about my business for almost a year, then randomly stumbled upon the tumblr Reylo community. I hadn't caught it in TFA, but those early days metas were 👀-OPENING, to say the least. #reylo

Couldn’t get them out of my head after I watched in the theatre. Looked them up on tumblr a few days later and found a sparse few posts. Made my tumblr blog reylo-solo and reblogged every last one

So I loved their dynamic as soon as I left the theater, but it wasn't until around March 2016 that I was rewatching TFA and reading Dramione fanfiction (the interrogation scene was on) and I went "Hmmm...I wonder what's out there for these two"

I started reading Interstellar Connections that night

I wish!!

I thought it was just a straight-forward, "he's a big bad villain and she's damsel in distress" type of thing.

I did however have one of those "oh no he's hot" moments when he took off the mask, so I'm not surprised Rey felt it too 🤭

I don’t consider myself a TFA Reylo but here’s the evidence from my 2016 sketchbook that I was clearly intrigued (and also that I always found Rey nearly impossible to draw 🥲)

I remember leaving the theater and just thinking...was there something going on with those two? And then I had to run to the internet to check and see if anybody else was getting the same vibes and that's how I found the reylos and my life has never been the same ever since! Lol

i didn’t ship them loudly (the tumblr anti kiddos scared me back in the day) so i spent 2016 furtively reading force bond fics & saving links to art like it was digital contraband all while trying to deny that i did, in fact, ship them. after all, dlf was never going to make reylo a thing, right?
