I am a rule-of-law kind of gal, but that means that you must have systems to monitor the impact of that law ‘enforcement,’ or lack thereof, embedded in the process. You just can’t say, “we enforce the law” as if just being “legal” makes a statute moral, ethical, Constitutional, or rights-based.

On the left is the ICE concentration camp near El Paso. On the right is an industrial chicken farm in Maryland. Do you know what happens when bird flu breaks out in the latter complex? Warehousing human beings these conditions will accelerate to the spread of diseases in any population.

I’m having students complete a writing assignment that provides a template for writing *to* a prompt involving a song reference. I tried to come up with examples that were totally unrelated to the subject so they couldn’t use the instructions for ideas. I really am obsessed with Skittles (LOL).

I have said this before, but eliminating programs that teach a lot of students but don’t have many majors is like a restaurant not buying flour in its grocery delivery because people aren’t ordering flour on the menu.

In Philly for 17’s rock show performance, so spent a few hours working at a great coffee shop nearby, and, of course, hit a bookstore (had to buy a book I’d heard was good), and grabbed a black & white cookie at Famous 4th Street Deli.

If we were serious about addressing the Black maternal mortality rate, we would start with guaranteeing every single person healthcare in this country by passing Medicare for All.

Maybe it’s because I’m a colonial historian but so many of these white nation states seem to behave exactly like they did in the 19th century: ‘your leaders aren’t right for you,’ ‘we’re only killing you/colonizing you/installing puppet leaders for your own good’

As a colonial legal historian, co-signed. We don't like your leaders so we're going to kill/kidnap/depose them for your sake; you can have a new leader, as a treat, but only if we like them (sotto voce: and they'll do what they're told).

Elite Doctors Served Jeffrey Epstein While Treating His ‘Girls’

This is truly one of the most revolting things to come out of the epstein files. Doctors are often trained to spot victims of trafficking. These high profile concierge docs just looked away, over & over again, at the evidence slapping them right in the face. & itt kills me so many of them were women

We seem to have collectively decided, gradually and mostly out of apathy, that presidents can launch flagrantly unconstitutional wars of choice without congressional approval and there just won’t be any consequences. Would be nice if this is where we start reversing the trend.

WOW. 19 people, all who were imprisoned and mistreated in a foreign prison at the direct command of the United States, are brave enough to say “We are innocent, and we will endure more time imprisoned to prove that.”

I can only admire the enormous courage such a move takes.

I cannot even believe this is even a tactic any competent politician would adopt.

Am I surprised? No, not that is was used, but that it was Labour who thought, “hey, yeah, maybe fascism is for us, too.”

FEMA taps billions for disasters, warning Democrats of ‘dire’ shutdown impact The agency sent out more than $5 billion in a single week, considerably shrinking cash for disasters amid the DHS shutdown.

LMAOOOOOO.

Noem's strategy of pretending the Disaster Relief Fund was almost empty didn't work, so she drained it (bad) by paying out $5 billion in recovery projects (good).

This lady is fucking nuts.

The Law of War I am not a law of war expert.

What does it mean if the administration's strike on Iran wasn't lawful? It's not an abstract debate. First principles, like the rule of law, determine whether we live in a country governed by laws or by impulse. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

I have zero f***s for this guy & his sad story.

He was at the SOTU. That’s enough in my book.

But, his ‘we were caught off guard’ is exactly what perpetrators say when they don’t want to take accountability for their actions. You heard the comment. You laughed. You took no action to remedy it.

There are STILL democrats who don’t understand the assignment.

Voting for a fascist regime’s nominees is still supporting a fascist regime. NONE of the democrats are clean on this (yeah, we remember votes early on when you thought being nice would tame fascism), but at this point, it’s a choice.
