With another extension, debate continues on youth curfew It's temporary for now, but Mayor Muriel Bowser wants to make it permanent.

The debate over D.C.'s expanded youth curfew was revived this week, @maustermuhle.bsky.social reports:

Lawmakers voted to reinstate the policy for another three months — with a looming debate about making it permanent.

As @mayorbowser.dc.gov is speaking to the D.C. Democratic Party meeting in Ward 5, there’s been a few interruptions from protesters angrily criticizing her over the apparent collaboration between D.C. police and ICE. They call her “complicit.”

Under an amendment from @cmzparker5.bsky.social and @cmfrumin.bsky.social, revenue from the decoupling with go to increase the city's match on the Earned Income Tax Credit and to restore the Child Tax Credit. Benefits of the first will be seen next year, but the CTC will be delayed until 2027.

NEWS: The D.C. Council just voted unanimously to decouple 13 provisions of the city's tax code from the federal code. It's a step to avoid some of the tax cuts (and loss of revenue) that would come from the GOP's tax bill passed earlier this year.

A news tidbit: I've heard that the D.C. Council could consider a bill next week that would start the process of decoupling the city from the federal tax code. This would be done to counteract federal tax changes that critics say benefit the wealthy and decrease revenue.
