Typically I start out with just a bust up sketch and expand the canvas size if need-be. And yeah don’t be afraid to expand the canvas size if you want to incorporate more stuff. It’ll keep your sketches looking consistent throughout, giving you much cleaner references for your lineart.

If you’re doing something super high detail, this obviously might not work that well.

Like yeah no hyperrealism painting will have 1000 x 1200 dimensions (that’d be hella impressive though)

But for the aspiring digital artist? Do this. Makes your life easier when it comes to sharing.

A much better way that I’ve found is to go alllll the way back down to 1000 x 1000 and downscale brushes if they look too big. That keeps the project less messy, and the file size not freaking insane

Like my drawings would consistently hit like 7 MB several times, it’s crazy
