I imagine the decision was made by people who work with the main ACL conferences, but it also impacts linguist-dominated venues like SCiL and PACLIC which should serve as a bridge between the communities. Linguists are no longer able to use the tool we're most familiar with.

Papers Paper submissions must describe original, completed, and unpublished work. They are limited to 8 content pages (plus unlimited pages for references) and should follow the two-column ACL format. The latest ACL style templates can be found by following this link. Please note that the ACL community has recently transitioned to LaTeX-only formatting, so Word templates are no longer available.

I wonder what was the background and justification behind ACL's switch? I understand that it's extra work for them to ensure the two templates line up, but I fear this will drive linguists away from ACL venues even more, at a time when the divide between CS and linguistics is particularly deep ...

PSA to students in computational fields: please never touch your base Anaconda environment and make sure you create a new environment for every class or project. Your future you (and instructors/TAs) will thank you - you'll spend much less time in dealing with dependencies and more on code!

It's so weird whenever I see a statistics book from De Gruyter. Like, you're not supposed to look like that! You're supposed to look like CRC Press or at least Springer!
