Do not get me started about how many of these accounts call it "Cotswold" as if it's just one single hill and not a 787+ square mile area of many hills. It's a plural! It needs the "the"! Just call it the right name!

But yeah, those places do have the same problem, people pointing cameras over people's fences, gardens, through their front windows- it's not a damn amusement park, people actually live there! Have some basic respect for the place

The thing with the Cotswolds is that those places *are* pretty, but there are many just as pretty and much quieter places. If people didn't drown the same 5-6 spots maybe it'd be fine.

At the same time, it did have its advantages living locally that they were all going there and not where I lived.

Sure these places *are*, pretty, but they genuinely can't support the sheer volume of people. Bibury has a population of just over 600 and some weekends gets *20,000* visitors. There's nothing there except that row of cottages, a reasonably pretty hotel, and a trout fishery.

But back to Bibury, because the appeal there is literally just one row of cute cottages beside to the river, visible from the main road (with heavy traffic and cars parked down it). It's got so impossible to move in or maintain that they've had to ban coaches

Come to Burford, a pretty market town with cute shops and oh no the entire hill it's on is gridlock traffic most of the time that all has to pass over 1 narrow weight restricted bridge while dodging tourists crossing the road anywhere but the designated crossings

"visit Bourton-on-the-Water, the Venice of the Cotswolds" yeah they call it that because it's drowning in tourists in the same way for most of the year.

Do we need more shots of Castle Combe from that spot by the bridge that you have to be up before dawn to ever see clear of people?

I have always found the mountains of "visit the Cotswolds" tourist bait accounts on Instagram funny, yeah sure just pack even more people into tiny villages for one photo. Bibury is nice, sure, but all these accounts conveniently leave out that one of the main roads in the area goes right through it

Also the battle for lose and loose is clearly... lost. Or should I say loosed? Nobody loses anymore, they just untie things.

I'm getting irrationally annoyed by the word "oftentimes"; it seems to be increasingly everywhere now, and yet is more to say and type than just "often" which means the exact same damn thing.

There has been precisely one place in my entire life that felt like home and I'm never going to see it again.

I miss the sparrows in the hedge and the doves in the tree, and the jackdaws on the rooftops. I miss the sheep on the hill and the ravens in the distance. I miss my starry night sky.

Just a glance at the littering all along every major road (motorways especially) is the biggest indicator of how little people seem to care about the environment around them
