28.02.2026 21:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I know people make huge super detailed builds, but I find it way more fun trying to figure out what details to preserve and what to sacrifice by trying to keep to a particular scale. It's just block pixel art! Forces you to solve the construction like a puzzle because you can never be exact

28.02.2026 19:59 β π 69 π 1 π¬ 3 π 0It's got a lot of charm, and very interesting to compare as the start and finish of their respective stylistic periods, but there's a coherence about Salisbury and an incompleteness about Wells that puts Salisbury above it for me. Though that's on pure aesthetics, of course.
28.02.2026 16:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Salisbury cathedral as seen from the west looking East on a sunny summer day. A large light stone gothic building stands beside a green lawn. Its front is a large symmetrical stone screen filled with arches and statues flanking a set of three large windows in the centre. To either side are two towers with short pointed spires. Behind them, further along the cathedral, is the tower with many fine details and windows, topped with a very tall stone spire.
The gothic north doorway of Salisbury cathedral on a summer day, looking down a path through a lawn to the stone gothic building, where many tall pointed windows can be seen. The doorway itself has a large and tall open pointed arch in its centre leading to a shaded passageway beyond. Above this archway are two smaller arches side by side, containing pairs of windows. To the right of the path stands an old-fashioned lamppost.
Salisbury Cathedral as seen on a clear sunny day from Old Sarum. The entire building can be seen at a significant distance beyond many green trees. It is a very tall building, with a high central stone spire.
Don't mind me, just daydreaming about seeing my favourite cathedral again one day

18.02.2026 22:54 β π 90 π 10 π¬ 1 π 0A series of 16 thumbnail sketches arranged in a 4x4 grid depicting the events of the HG Wells novel War of the Worlds. From top left to bottom right, 1: The interior of an observatory with a telescope, with two figures lit only by a small lantern. 2: The first cylinder streaks across the sky like a meteor. 3: the cylinder embedded in Horsell common, shiny steel protruding from the ground. 4: From inside the cylinder, a dark tentacled beast peers out at the crowd above the crater. 5: The heat ray attack on the common, plants bursting into flames. 6: The road to Leatherhead, with fire in the distance. 7: The return trip witnessing the arrival of the third cylinder 8: The first encounter with a fighting machine in the storm. 9: The narrator and artilleryman look out the window at the destruction 10: The walk with the artilleryman through a devastated wood. 11: The guns take down a fighting machine at Weybridge 12: the narrator's escape on the river 13: The fighting machines enter London 14: The Blackwater estuary 15: The Thunderchild battles the fighting machines. 16: The narrator and curate walk through wrecked parts of london together among the machines.
A 4x2 grid of thumbnail sketches in black and white depicting more events from War of the Worlds, continued from previous: 17: The narrator peers out of a hole in the collapse house with the curate. 18: The martians take the curate. 19: The land ruined and covered in the red weed 20: The narrator encounters the artilleryman again in the mist. 21: The narrator witnesses the tiny tunnel the artilleryman has been digging. 22: The narrator enters the ruins of London where a fighting machine stands unmoving. 23: the dead machine on Primrose hill surrounded by crows. 24: a final shot of his return journey down a wooded road.
Don't think I've ever posted these, but back in 2020 I did a whole series of thumbnail sketches that follow the plot of War of the Worlds as accurately as I could get it told in 24 panels. Pretty sure I covered each major event!

Yes, sad.

18.02.2026 16:10 β π 28 π 0 π¬ 2 π 8A green meteor illuminates a rural landscape and some clouds at night, shining very brightly. A red planet can be seen in the sky.
A large metallic cylinder sits in a crater on a sandy heathland dotted with pine trees in the early morning light. People have gathered around the crater's edge.
A figure runs through burning heathland as a nearly invisible ray of head sets fire to the surrounding landscape, destroying trees. The sky is full of smoke.
A tall martian fighting machine with three legs, a mass of metal tentacles, and a bright shining front 'eye' stands between tall dark pine trees as lightning illuminates the upper portions of the sky behind it, and distant fire illuminates the lower parts behind the trees.
I adapted 4 of these into full sized things that I could certainly do better now, but hey.
