Very, that's why the best advice is... to ignore this kind of advice. I suppose it's hard to know what's bad advice sometimes but still

Yeah I always think of this as "what would be the thing that smashes this character's worldview and requires a journey to reconcile" rather that "lets lock this character in a murder dungeon for no reason"

The first of those is so funny because clearly some rich guy came along at the turn of the 16th century and was like "these are fashionable now! You should make one!", but it clearly doesn't fit the older fabric of the chapel. So it almost looks suspended from nothing

The interior of a narrow medieval church chapel. Either side is arcaded with tall stone arches set in white walls. At the far end is a tall window full of stained glass above an altar with a green cloth. The chapel ceiling has an unusual fan vault.

Fan vaults? Fan vaults.

Piece or, not peace of, ugh. But you get the point. Art that takes a while gets complicated and messy with emotions

Especially if your life kinda shifts as you make it. Now you're putting something else into it that wasn't there when you started, and kinda lose what you already put in there at the beginning. Now does that add layers of meaning to the peace of muddle its core premise??

Many artists have talked about how something they made now doesn't quite mean the same thing in retrospect as when they first made it

I think sometimes if a painting goes on for a long time before it's done, the same is true. The feelings and ideas that inspired it get recontectualised maybe

Yeah I wanna paint I guess but also life is chaos in a way that makes painting 200 singing nettles daunting

What do you mean I actually have to paint if I want to pretend to be an artist what kinda bullshit is this?? I should be able to coast purely on the idea of painting anything

That Simon Jenkins, given his entire career being built on writing about and the appreciation of historic architecture, would say something so utterly brain-dead does somewhat reinforce my dislike of his ubiquity in the field. You can't seem to talk old buildings without his name appearing.

A quiet river scene. Clear reflective water is surrounded by verdant green foliage lining the water's edge, and trees with hanging leafy branches stand beside the river. Some ways down the river among some greenery, a small white sheep drinks from the water.
