The Last Judgment (Memling) - Wikipedia

It's visible right into the northern renaissance, such as with Hans Memling's triptych of The Just Judgement. Strongly falls off with the various Protestant reformations.

It has no title- it's on the south nave wall of the Church of St James the Great, South Leigh, Oxfordshire. It's a depiction of the Archangel Michael weighing souls, common in medieval art. There are little demons trying to interfere with the scales, which is fun.

A section of the mural above the chevron-decorated arch. It depicts a central humanoid crow figure with outstretched wings streaked with gold. As a big fan, he also deserves to be much more wildly known for all the other stuff he did beyond his patterns. Very cool guy for his time

Unfortunately for you I have no idea what that is

Within a gothic style arched frame with spandrels decorated with oak-leaves is a painted scene in which a woman with pale skin and flowing red hair and wearing a long blue silk dress holds a small but intricately decorated gilded box in her hands. She looks at the viewer with a reserved expression. To either side of her stands a humanoid crow figure, with the heads of jackdaws and long flowing black robes. The left holds a simple chalice, the right holds a small dagger in open hands. At their feat is a carpet of brown oak leaves fallen from branches above them (some leaves are caught in the dress and robes). In these leaves stand two ring-necked pheasants, a male in red and blue on the left, and a female in light speckled brown on the right. I'm moving house and it's genuinely because of 2005's Battalion Wars for the Nintendo GameCube

I'm sorry it's too early in the morning for a determinist spiral please get me a shot of free will fast but do so in a way that's independent of any causation to break that chain a little

This is all happening and could only have happened this way because 136 years ago a businessman the other side of the world wanted to sell playing cards

The great thing is you can do this for literally any event
Would I have got said game if it wasn't cloudy on one particular Saturday in 2005? The course of my life is dependant on the invention of the GameCube... And everything that came before it. And everything that lead to that. And to that.

Hey ever think about how all the major events in your life are all predicated on the actions of others long before you even existed and entirely out of your control and maybe "control" isn't even real and without knowing your life has been guided by the purchase of one game one weekend as a child

Today is the perfect example of being able to look back at particular events in world history and to say "this would not be happening to me if not for this one thing"

...and in this case it's "once played a slightly obscure GameCube tactics game 20 years ago"; it's a genuine cause of this move

If it worked in art for thousands of years before the late renaissance it can still work for us today. Stick that stuff front and centre. Keep that "camera" as level as you want. You can just do stuff.

Oh yeah I'm a big subscriber to the "ignore the standard concept art kind of styles of framing and composition because a simple centre composition works" philosophy
