Spurs players look like they’re in denial about the situation they are in. Always worrying when some players appear to look like they’re above the indignity of a scrap & it’s weird that they would think that when they were circling the drain in a soggy paper boat last season too.

German soccer club say proposed U.S. tour ‘does not fit our values’, citing ICE actions Werder Bremen had provisionally been planning to spend a week between Minnesota and Detroit in May, playing two friendly matches.

German club Werder Bremen decide against a summer tour to U.S because right now it ‘does not fit our values’, citing ICE actions. The story from @sebsb.bsky.social & @colinmillar.bsky.social is really interesting and so are the comments.

FIFA claim of a ‘World Cup for everyone’ doesn’t align with immigrant soccer fans, like me The melting pot I grew up in had one constant: soccer was the thread that weaved so many of us together.

Ahead of this summer's World Cup, FIFA has consistently claimed that the tournament is "for everyone."

But as @melanieanzidei.bsky.social writes from personal experience, immigrant communities across the United States are increasingly feeling shut out of soccer's biggest show.

Indeed, and IOC may follow, FIFA have obviously been making noises too. Not a good look when nothing has changed.

Hi Gary - hope all well mate. Have you done the same? Also with your link to those making their way in the world of journalism etc, what is your advice to the next gen?

Seems to be a number of different elements that could be red lines but that don't seem to be currently. Just very simply some of the things (words/actions) of the owner for example, but perhaps that's a symptom of the new age of say/do anything and it just washes over people.

17.02.2026 11:26 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

I hear you, I just wonder how many people or organisations would now chose to have a presence on a similar platform that was being set up today.

17.02.2026 10:20 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Yeah that's a good shout. Has ended up being a bit of an echo chamber on both sides.

17.02.2026 10:08 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

I agree, I think it needs the big hitters (individuals and organisations) to make a real dent, but I also get that shorter term priorities often do take precedent.

17.02.2026 10:06 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Yeah I hear you, it is a tricky one.

17.02.2026 10:05 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Yes the whole thing - as it is such an established platform - is a tricky one to unpick for individuals and organisations though, I get it. One thing that I think would help is more discussion on the platform about what it is serving and enabling.

17.02.2026 10:03 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Yeah I guess for a lot of people/orgs (and I was the same up until fairly recently) you need to have the blinkers on/fingers in ears & la la la, to be able to ignore the overarching motivations of the platform, and understand that many are stuck having built up followings etc.

17.02.2026 10:00 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Get BlueSky’s set up was reaction to X’s decline under Musk, so preaching to many hardline anti-Xers here. I’ve left X now, but what are people’s views on whether retaining accounts on the platform is an important counter to disinformation or gives it legitimacy & numbers that is slowing its demise?

If you have a curious fascination in football clubs doing weird things when it comes to managers, you’ll enjoy this. Not so fun for Forest heads like @nickmiller79.bsky.social & Paul Taylor though.
