I just realized I like reasoning about structures. When you learn that mathematics is nothing like what you do in school, it becomes more interesting. It's not just remembering equations or plugging in numbers, but it's exploring concepts.

Mathematics is basically structured philosophy. The joy of philosophy is in the thinking and reasoning, but if you just jump straight to the end conclusion you suck all the fun out of it. Solving the trolley problem without thinking of the trolley.

I do math because I love it. I invent and create, I describe things never described before and investigate them. Doing math just for the end results sounds completely soulless.
