One such rule is that, for any real numbers x, y, and z...

x * (y + z) = x * y + x * z

We're stating this as fact. These two are always equal. With this, we can build more rules:

x + x = x * 1 + x * 1 [identity]
= x * (1 + 1) [our rule above]
= x * 2

So x + x is the same as doubling x.

A variable is just a stand-in for a value we haven't concretely defined.

We may say "let x be a real number", and that's all it means. It's a real number. Not only do we not know which, we don't care which, but by saying it's a real number we have some rules for its usage.

It's also an issue with the wider gay community (and contributes to my reluctance to be involved in it).

I think the furry community as a whole needs to have a serious conversation about body groups, shaming, and stereotypes.
