Yea, my repairs are certainly not pretty. But I haven’t started any electrical fires, yet.

Keeps a little plastic out of the landfill, for now!

A soldering iron is one of those things I never thought I’d use until I got one.

It’s super useful for simple repairs to cheap toys, like this flashlight that had a loose wire.

You might think it’s hard to use, but it’s only hard to use WELL! Mediocre is easy, and usually good enough.

You might not believe that increasing the housing supply moderates rents, but your landlord does.

West Loop apartments trade for $66M as market headwinds persist The price for the the 20-story, 198-unit apartment tower on West Van Buren Street shows headwinds in the commercial property sector persist.

β€œThere’s a lack of institutional capital flow for ground-up development in Chicago, so it’s creating a lot of inequity between supply and demand…so that translates to buying real estate at a great basis with what appears to be some significant rent growth over the next couple of years.”

It is frustrating because, as a reporter in a rural area, I’ve met the governor of my state (IL) a dozen times for ribbon cuttings and initiatives to improve life downstate, and I still have to hear how nothing happens. Like, my time sheet says a lot of stuff is happening.

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten so many comments on a BlueSky post before, and it’s over this dumb ugly car.

You should be proud of your poll workers at the Humboldt Park library, @chicagoelection.bsky.social.

I tried to drop my and my wife’s mail-in ballots at an early voting site today and the poll workers actually checked to make sure the back of hers was properly filled out authorizing me to deliver it. It wasn’t, so they made it keep it!

Extremely annoyed that they were properly doing their job!

I could probably fit 99% of the things anybody would ever haul in a Santa Cruz in a Prius with the back seats folded down.

Nothing! So pretty much the same as any F-series owner.

People who’d rather have a third row of seats than a useless truckbed.

The Minnesota resistance outlasted Kristi Noem. One more datapoint that Minnesota is better than South Dakota.

A light blue Hyundai Santa Cruz. It’s what you’d get if a crossover SUV had a baby with a pickup truck, but the baby inhereted the ugliest parts of each parent.

I passed one of these on the road today and was taken aback by how dumb it looks.

I know school closures are incredibly difficult, but I don't understand how it makes sense for CPS to spend 100s of 1000s a year to lease this charter school building when there's a severely under-enrolled school three blocks away.

From 1894-1921, the Field Museum was located in the Palace of Fine Arts in Jackson Park (now home to the Griffin MSI). When it moved to its present home in Grant Park, its enormous collection was moved *by train* on temporary tracks connecting the two buildings to the Illinois Central railroad.
