The "it's 1995" panic is in full swing. I wrote my first letter to the editor circa 1994 agreeing that there was a public finance problem, but advising not to make cutting subsistence to poor people the solution.

After 1995, draconian social assistance cuts ensued.

By 2003, the data were in.

Didn't we try this once in economics and then say nah we need to model the motivations and choices of every molecule?

This is simply a true and obvious statement so unsure how this can be novel enough for publication.

KW is poorly situated in relation to all bodies of water. It is not fair that it is quicker to get to all 3 local great lakes from Hamilton (counting Georgian Bay). We should have one advantage!

Also the Bruce Peninsula is much bigger when driving it than it appears on the map.

That's not a boomerang, it's just how tariffs work.

The boomerang that apparently Americans had no idea might show up to hit them in the back of the head was counter-tariffs.

Though of course the whole world and anyone with a glancing knowledge of history was shouting "watch out!"

For crying out loud, "bruised feelings"?

Not an attempted defense against Trump declaring an "economic war"?

And US needs to declare to "travelers around the world that it is open to business" - but it is simply not. Tourism businesses might like to believe theor govt is on their side, but nope.

Reading an article about cycling in Montreal and apparently 1/3 of all trips in the city are by bike. Pretty cool! I thought I would mention it since 90% of the people I follow on Bluesky have exclusively bike lane politics.

Doublethink is holding 2 contradictory beliefs in your mind at the same time and believing both are true. For example, believing β€œPortland is war ravaged” and that peaceful, costumed protestors are proof of that. Party slogan β€œwar is peace” is another example. Teaches people to believe overt lies.

Lake O was 20 on Friday, and really fairly lovely. Huron looks like it's 16-17 at the moment, though we will see. Still, should be manageable (at least to the weirdos I'm hanging out with).
