Solid review, by the way. Genre and mechanics aside, there's nothing quite like Qud out there. The descriptions of everything in the game, with their baroque, almost medieval descriptions, evoke the game world around you better than any high-end graphics could

I don't consider metaprogression an essential part of what makes a roguelike, but I admit when I've seen it added to a roguelike, I've universally enjoyed that aspect of the game
