Birding for 60 years in UK and across world. Should be a lot better at it. Write monthly bird round up for Walthamstow Wetlands in London on walthamstowbirders.blogspot.com Fortunate to have birded St Agnes every year since 1981

Sixty years ago today I was shown five Little Stints to spark a life-long passion for birding. So it was good of these Black-necked Grebes - the first I think this year - to turn up in front of me at Walthamstow to mark the milestone. Really should have learnt to keep the camera out of the rain

Osprey, Little Owl and, perhaps best of all, the regular sound of Cuckoos were among May's birding highlights at London's Walthamstow Wetlands. Annual total so far is 126, two ahead of last year. Thanks to @samodonnell25.bsky.social @redbirder.bsky.social & MLP for great photographs as usual

Should have included @londonkingfishers.bsky.social to list of birders who supplied great photos for the April round-up.

Well it's been very nice being back on Patch this weekend at Walthamstow Wetlands, but today was exceptional! Record counts for both Barwits (c55) and Whimbrels (c12). Amazing sight to see with big flocks of waders flying over. Can't fit everything I want to say on here so ⬇️ #ukbirding

These truly terrible Marsh Tit pics from today are of my 116th bird in London this month - 10 more than last time I tried a Big January. Amazing what you can see with a Freedom Pass. But after averaging over 10 miles a day, my feet are rather pleased February has arrived…. #londonbirding #ukbirding

Sad to pass on news that London birder and Scilly regular Sean Huggins has died. Sean was Middlesex Recorder until recently and sat on London Rarities Committee. We were good friends for over 40 years. Thoughts with Val. #ukbirding #londonbirding #kentbirding
