Albernaz is seemingly putting together a great coaching staff. Not only is the Singley hire a fantastic one for the continued development of Basallo, it’s telling me that it could mean that Adley isn’t going anywhere for now either as they both can co-exist on this roster.

* The Athletic’s Jim Bowden reported yesterday that the Orioles are getting calls on Adley Rutschman from teams searching for catching depth. I’m sure that’s accurate, but it also provides the yearly reminder that executives contact other executives to check on player availability. Mike Elias and the others are going to listen because that’s an important part of the job. It isn’t the same as shopping him. The plan is for Rutschman to be the main catcher and Samuel Basallo to back up and also get at-bats at first base and as designated hitter. Let’s replay Elias’ quote from the season-ending press conference. “Adley's a guy, he will be our front-line catcher,” Elias said.

For certain fanbases that need to read that fielding calls about a player is not the same as actively shopping a player. Sadly they’re not going to be happy once they’re finished reading it. 🌝

Not saying Elias is trying to make me like him again because not sure that will ever happen, but his quote right here sure has me starting to feel that he knows he has to change his ways in order to build a winning team. Nothing wrong with having competition for the guys in the core to motivate them

Alby is certainly a breath of fresh air and him seemingly being allowed to bring in his own coaching staff so far has allowed me to let go of my hurt and cynicism some and I’ve been all in on him so far and it’s helping me completely *try* to ignore my total disdain towards Elias lol

Yeah and the only Boras client we ended up “signing” in free agency last year was Tyler O’Neill, and to me that’s the equivalent of signing no one. Boras uses the Orioles as leverage every year. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Ecker was also on the coaching staff with the Rangers when they won the World Series in 2023. That's also a big takeaway.

I need to learn more about him since I’m still at work but a few observations are that Elias is still allowing Alby to hire his own staff, more positive signs, & Ecker appears to have some former work with other teams as a hitting coach. Seems to me that Alby wants more focus on hitting. Important.

A human being could be struggling mentally. The last thing on my mind right now is a 6th round draft pick. I just hope he puts himself first to get himself right. The game always comes second. Best wishes to Jaire.
