Today marks 56 years since March 4, 1969, when students and faculty shut down MIT for a day, to talk about larger issues related to war and technology and possible futures, while the war in Vietnam was raging. Now different wars are raging. Humanity's future hangs in the balance as never before.

And let's not forget that taking one's seat is a radical act of love, and of sanity, open-hearted spaciousness, and wisdom. Taking one's seat is taking a stand. And we can carry that stand into everything we do, and everything we are called to say NO to: to greed, hatred, and delusion writ large.

And let's never forget the One Thousand Year View, while doing everything we can and being all we can be in this timeless moment, so humanity can have the next ten years, never mind one hundred or one thousand and beyond.

Tim Synder's On Freedom is essential reading to understand what is unfolding in the US and globally at this moment, with autocracy in ascendence. So is his Yale colleague, Jason Stanley's Erasing History, and Anne Applebaum's Autocracy Inc. It is an all hands on deck - aware and aware - moment.
