This sucks. It was public domain, so I recovered the 2020 edition (the last one published as a zip file) and shared it to GitHub simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/5/t...

In the couple of months since seeing this eruption in person, I’ve been monitoring the USGS data, and been checking their cameras on YouTube.

Episode 21 occurred this weekend. I am just so fascinated by the volcano.

It’s a great reference to have imo.

Look at this astounding Hawaii quilt. The pattern is called “the crown of Ka’iulani.” Princess La’iulani was the heir to Hawaii when Hawaii was annexed by the US.

I’m hopeful my daughter, who currently studies media technology as her high school pathway, will be inspired to tell important stories with her film making one day.

As a boy, I learned from my dad, who served in the US Navy, that the US military used the island of Kahoʻolawe for bombing practice.

I never understood how such a thing was permitted.

The story of the Protect Kahoʻolawe ʻOhana resonates with me.
