Here’s a good book to read if you ever want to read up on it. I’m a Buddhist and some of the parallels in Gnostic Christianity are striking.

My uncle was a Catholic priest & New Testament scholar. I once asked him how much of the teachings of Christ were altered by The Church or lost in translation from ancient Greek to Latin to English, & he told me the word of God could not be diluted. I told him that was a very convenient explanation.

Have you read any history of substance on the topic? If so I’m curious of what there was/is to be proud of.

If you ever check out Gnostic Christianity it was actually pretty cool. A very eastern approach centered on spirit and inner growth. The gospels of Thomas and Mary Magdalene are very telling. Of course they were outlawed by the church and buried for 1700 years.

Whoever wrote this managed to leave out The Crusades which lasted 200 years and is estimated to have killed up to 9 million people.

The state has always used religion to control the population. The Romans perfected it by institutionalizing Christianity, then exterminating Gnostic Christianity, the Druids and any other pagan belief system that allowed people to understand the better parts of their own nature.
