Fresh setup on my Ortega 8 string!
Trying out the newer NYP8 string set Ortega offers. Tuned EBEADGBE

I’ve been gravitated to my Ortega 7 more lately for nylon playing but this guitar certainly has its own charm. One of the ones I’ve owned the longest at this point too, since 2017

And on at least 2 occasions I’ve ordered super long scale bass strings and received shorter scale strings (in the long super scale packaging too)

When I contacted D’Addario about this, I believe they offered to replace them but these are oddly specific issues I’ve only encountered from Amazon πŸ˜‚

I’ve had strange mixups with D’Addario strings on Amazon.

Once I ordered a 6 string bass set that came in the 6 string box, but had a sealed 5 string pack inside.

Another time I received a bass string that was opened, and coiled up/cut like it was used. They even made me mail it back 🀣

For classical strings, I get the Savarez sets usually from Strings By Mail as well. For steel string acoustic I’ve been using John Pearse strings who sells their own singles direct, or on bass just regular D’Addario XLs from anywhere that has them easily available

Guitar Strings, Accessories, Sheet Music, Violin Strings and MORE Strings By Mail is your online source for Classical, Flamenco, Acoustic and Electric Guitars. We also carry Violin, Cello, Viola, Bass, Sheet Music, Books, CDs and DVDs.

Depends on the brand/type, but most of the time I use regular Ernie Ball singles or D’Addario XLs on the electrics

Usually I order from Stringsbymail.com, but if they don’t have something then juststrings.com or Amazon even (have had weird issues with Amazon occasionally though)

It’s a 25.5” scale. The neck shape feels much more like a normal classical 6, compared to my Ortega 8 which is pretty massive.

They’re fairly inexpensive and sweet for the features it has. Just had to give it a setup when I got it (things like saddle/nut height) but it was very worth it I think

New strings on my Ortega RCE133-7
Using Savarez Yamandu Costa signature strings, perfect set for AEADGBE tuning

Also polished up the frets and took a bit of extra fine steel wool to the fretboard, to get it a bit smoother feeling while playing. Love it!

Interesting point! So far it’s been held up okay, but it’s def heavier than my other guitars. (I’d be playing 10s on my others for example)

I had 11s on it initially, but wanted to try heavier to embrace the jazzy hollow body setup. It really came to life with the heavier set so I’ve stuck with it!

Fret polishing and new strings on my Ibanez AFJ957 hollow body: 12-52 set + an 80 low A

Much heavier string setup compared to my metal 7s. Aiming for louder volume and low end resonance this way.

I may not have the jazz credentials for this guitar, but it’s totally got its own voice that I love!
