Today, Lebanon got pulled into a war that many in the country had hoped to avoid. Already, 52 have been killed, 154 wounded, and thousands have been displaced from their homes.

Finally, PM Nawaf Salam directs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Emigrants to engage with the international community to "stop the Israeli aggression" and the Ministry of Social Affairs to secure shelter for those displaced and to provide them with food and essential supplies. (5)

None of this is possible if Israel keeps striking Lebanon (which it's been doing since Nov 2024 ceasefire). PM Nawaf Salam calls on US and France, as guarantor states, "to obtain a clear and final commitment from the Israeli side to cease all attacks on all Lebanese territory." (4)

On disarmament, PM Nawaf Salam directs the army "to immediately and decisively" implement the plan presented on Feb 16, 2026 (phase 2 of disarmament), "concerning the confiscation of weapons north of the Litani River, using all means necessary to ensure its implementation." (3)

PM Nawaf Salam had also directed military and security agencies to implement today's order on Hezbollah, to prevent any military operation or the launching of any missiles and drones from Lebanese territory, and to arrest those violating this order. (2)

AP: Israel launched a barrage of strikes on Beirut after Lebanese militant group Hezbollah fired missiles across the border early Monday. Hezbollah said in a statement that “strikes were carried out in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s supreme leader and for repeated Israeli aggressions.”

My heart is with the loved ones of British photographer Paul Conroy ( @reflextv.bsky.social ) who has passed away. Paul had a storied legacy bravely documenting conflicts. He was injured in the Assad regime's 2012 attack which claimed the life of Marie Colvin.

A heavy moment, rife with unasked and unanswered questions that must be posed.

Yet it's also a moment that is unfolding so quickly, with little to no guardrails, and not enough voices in positions of power asking questions, demanding answers, and offering alternative visions.

What will this chapter mean for the credibility of domestic and international courts? What will it mean for our victims? What will it mean for the hardliners looking for an excuse to work outside of institutions? What will it mean for the success and stability of our transitions?

There was a time, until very recently, that bringing an abusive leader to court and giving his victims a chance to share their truths and see their abusers held to account was the priority.

I fear that the legacy of this moment is one that will haunt us for years to come.

One of the most terrifying things about this historical chapter for me personally has been watching in live time how quickly it's become normalized for one state to target the leader of another for assassination.
