Labour must stop channelling Reform and unite with progressives. That’s the lesson from Gorton and Denton | Sadiq Khan The threat to the party in some parts of our country is now existential. But we can progress, as we have in London, by being bold and strong in our core beliefs, says London mayor Sadiq Khan

Anyone working in "news" or "politics" needs to finally wrap their minds around the idea that X isn't reaching anyone that matters. You're wasting your time pitching no one. You're wasting your money pitching no one.

If what Farage claims is true, he should have romped home with 71% of the Gorton and Denton vote

But he didn't. He got 28.7%

So maybe he implies something different by british born

Surely not

Youth unemployment is not at its β€˜highest ever’ levels – Full Fact Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch claimed at PMQs that youth unemployment is β€˜at its highest ever’, but that’s not what the statistics show.

At #PMQs this week Kemi Badenoch claimed β€œyouth unemployment is at its highest ever”.

This isn’t correct for either the unemployment rate or the number of unemployed 16-24 year olds, according to ONS data.

Well, no, they’re not just as wrong. The bigger error is not seeing that β€œtrying to win over voters from a party on the opposite end of the spectrum, whose values your core voters oppose” is not same as β€œchasing voters from party on same side ideologically whose values your core voters like.”

Keir Starmer is going to end up with his trademark u-turn here – where it becomes obvious to those paying attention it was entirely forced by backbenchers. So he gets no credit for the u-turn by people who wanted it, and attacked for dropping the policy by others.

Reform lost heavily (by 5000)+would have lost (more narrowly - 1000-1500) if no voters born abroad

Reform would have won if disenfranchised all ethnic minority voters, or disenfranchised all voters aged under 45, or all uni graduates.

But Farage only calling to disenfranchise Commonwealth voters

Having considered for 48 hours the best way to protect the autonomy, the equal voice and the equal right to cast a secret ballot of south Asian women at the polling station, Nigel Farage has concluded it is important to "go further" and to disenfranchise as many Asian women [+ men] as possible

Plans to make refugee a status of perpetual limbo will do nothing to stop people who need help seeking it nor make it possible for them to rebuild their lives and contribute. I call for humane and effective asylum reforms because I am true Labour, not blue Labour. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

Of course, it is unlawful.

Even the "pre-emptive" justification is half-hearted guff.

Of course, it is stupid.

Wise US politicians once realised a rules-based international order was in their interests. That is being thrown away.

And most of all, and regardless of the above, it is wrong.

As I understand it, the answer is

Yes - because their parents are economic migrants,

So working-class children aged 7 should face hurdles & barriers to secure status, family security & educational opportunity that affluent classmates & those in private schools will not

A consistent recurring theme of Farage byelection losses over a decade - Oldham 2015 with Ukip, Peterborough 2019 with Brexit Party, Gorton & Denton 2026 - is to talk loudly about electoral challenges about minority voters. But never to actually put the case to authorities. Media should spot pattern

Also worth noting the Reform candidate being unable to give her the courtesy of listening.

Poor Matt Goodwin. All he ever wanted was to be a hard working MP/academic/tv presenter/commentator/writer/pollster/wealth adviser/women’s health guru and you all ripped that away from him. A shame

This is an amazing write up of the by-election.

Because it doesn't mention *at all* how Reform did not live up to (some) expectations.

It's purely angled against Labour. Not highlighting the Green win. Not highlighting the Reform loss.

Not, in other words, fair.
