We don’t talk nearly enough about the bircher’s legacy.

Also there are many elected Republican officials who run state elections. Elections are their little fiefdoms and they’ll be damned if someone takes that away.

Sam looking to the Star. C/o: Laura Hollingsworth Art

Sam struggled with his own weariness and he took Frodo’s hand; and there he sat silent till deep night fell. Then at last, to keep himself awake, he crawled from the hiding place and looked out. The land seemed full of creaking and cracking and sly noises, but there was no sound of voice or of foot.

I used to canvass on water issues in Texas and it blows my mind that most municipalities (not San Antonio which actually has a pretty decent water policy) actually charge you LESS for using more water. Mind boggling.

Speech That Plays It Safe Does Not Remain Free for Long Fierce disputation and colorful variety are often a sign of a society in good health, not terminal decline.

"Humboldt lived and moved in a cloistered society of eager conformists, sternly held in place by the notoriously bureaucratic state of Prussia."

The Humboldt brothers are genuinely inspiring. Thank you for bringing Wilhelm to more prominence.

Great post. Side note: Murdering McKinley is one of my favorite books.

AI is like if the only opinions you were allowed to have about aerospace are β€œairplanes aren’t real” and β€œwe should give a klansman handing out cardboard wings and telling people to jump off buildings a trillion dollars.”

More people need to read Benjamin. He talks about the uses of art by fascists.

I didn’t watch but somehow from many posts this seems appropriate.

Tolkien too was a conservative, but would detest modern conservative thinking.

I don’t know how to tell people but part of nonviolent protest is provoking a violent response. The point is to break unjust laws. Activists don’t assume the state will be nonviolent.

It feels very structuralist (laudatory) vs post structuralist (derogatory) in that woke 1.0 tried to only play in language spaces rather than undermining the structures that underpin language.
