ICE’s Spectacle of Intimidation Immigrants showing up for court dates in Manhattan must now navigate past rows of masked federal agents.

Mark Peterson’s black-and-white images of ICE agents evoke film noir and the urban-crime photography of the 1930s and ’40s. “If someone is doing everything right, and then they still get detained, it’s a crime scene,” he said.

Homelessness is a primary contradiction of capitalism. Homeless people are easy to dehumanize & blame. Their visibility in urban areas makes them convenient scapegoats to justify far-right policies. It’s important we highlight the structural causes of homelessness & support our homeless neighbors.

The reason people keep claiming that Republicans and other types of creepy religious freaks want to take away the vote for women is because they keep saying that's what they intend to do.

A society that has scorned education for what it is—which is an investment in the generative value of human knowledge—and turned it into a purely transactional value, and only to the degree that it can create profits for corporations who are simultaneously trying to solve for human labor entirely.

Also, Andrew Cuomo spent $20 million of NY taxpayers' money to subpoena phone (& gynecological records!) of women who accused him of sexual harassment. How else might those 20 million have been spent? For instance: on resources and services for needy New Yorkers?

“…at odds with a body of scientific evidence….”

Wouldn’t it be nice if @bloomberg.com could just state clearly the Wright is lying and actively attempting to subvert the truth? And it’s not “a body of scientific evidence.” It’s THE body.

What the world can learn from Copenhagen’s cycling revolution Close to two-thirds of the city’s residents commute by bike to school or work every day.

“When mayors in other cities ask me how #Copenhagen afforded to invest in its cycling networks, I ask them how on earth they have been able to afford highway projects. We invested in bike lanes because that was the cheapest option.”

The MAGA regime is unconstitutional—they do not respect or adhere to the constitution.

It is not a lawful, constitutionally legitimate administration. It’s a lawless regime that does what it wants without limits.

The trans panic is maddening, because trans people are expected to defend ourselves with logic science and any sign of emotion is a failure.

And yet the anti-trans campaign is nothing but appeals to emotion unburdened by facts, precedent, or empathy.

Agreed / for clarity, by mainstream - do you mean something like 50501 or the 60’s civil rights movement (was it mainstream?)? I think @xrnyc.bsky.social has the cultural tech for movement building but getting folks to see themselves as organizers building a movement (vs showing up) is a challenge

At @xrnyc.bsky.social our 3rd demand for citizens assembly (or a pretty radical deliberative democratic process) can help us navigate the difficult decisions once we reckon with the emergency (we don’t pretend to have the answers - we all do) … “realistic” changes with the prospect of extinction

And here we go. The plan seems to be to go full 𝕾𝖈𝖍𝖚𝖙𝖟𝖘𝖙𝖆𝖋𝖋𝖊𝖑, to turn the nation into a military police state. They’re telling each other to be careful what they write down, but they’ve already written down too much. 🧵:

The problem is far bigger than Jeffrey Epstein | Rebecca Solnit Treating the scandal as an aberration misunderstands the global epidemic of violence against women

"One of the reasons the epidemic of violence against women is so unacknowledged is because cases like these are talked about individually, and often treated as though they are shocking aberrations rather than part of a pervasive pattern that operates at all levels of society."

I’m also curious about societal permission in Israel, beyond direct actors, that allows genocide & how accountability for all of society turns into repentance & repair. Same goes for the US as being a primary enabler. Not a good record on slavery & indigenous harms but gotta start somewhere

This city could run dry ‘within weeks’ as it grapples with an acute water crisis — CNN Vital reservoirs are shrinking, authorities are scrambling to reduce demand and stave off catastrophe and residents are desperately trying to conserve water.

Tehran, a city of ten million where temps in recent weeks have hit 122°F may run out of water. No. Water. Dry. Taps. apple.news/A0lGJIYfXR_6...

“…regular failure to impeach does something far more dangerous: It desensitizes the population to the danger, because when a president does something and is not impeached for it, it effectively becomes something a president is allowed to do” - to the below I’d add a threat to the world.
