Employment Rights Bill

It was back in the Lords again yesterday.

And again the Tories and Lib Dems voted to weaken the bill in 5 areas:

1. Weaking rules banning zero-hours contracts

2. Removing day 1 protection from unfair dismissal

3. Disagreement over a definition of seasonal work

As an aside it’s why I’m against PR. Voters in a local area should get to decide who their MP and be able to vote them out.

I don’t know. I think if the polls stay the same there could be Caerphilly type elections all over where one progressive party is rallied behind. Reform are proving to be popular but they are the most hated too. With boring old FPTP voters can choose their local MP.

The Covid inquiry delivers its report on phase 2 on Thursday at 4pm.

I can think of no finer marker than to prosecute Tory ministers and former PMs for their part in the absolute criminality of the pandemic.

I think the year before an election is when you can start campaigning and tell people “look we promised we’d try it and it doesn’t work - you are feeling the effects - let’s change course”

The evidence from last time suggests this wouldn’t happen. False promises on the side of buses, bendy bananas and don’t forget all the lies in the media. No, you can’t have a prolonged debate etc when one side is so unserious. They would just lie again and we’d be back to square one

I think he would need to do that nearer the election so that he has a mandate. I think campaigning for it now would only throw a lifeline to reform whose only headlines at the moment are crumbling council administrations. They would love nothing more than a fight over Brexit.

My government is doing things differently. Free Breakfast clubs supported by Sainsbury's, Weetabix, Morrisons and Magic Breakfast. More than 23 million free toothbrushes and toothpastes to protect children from tooth decay through our partnership with Colgate UK and Ireland. Ensuring there's a library in every primary school by the end of this parliament with the National Literacy Trust. Partnerships like these deliver change where it matters most, raising standards and creating opportunities for children across the country.

Labour are doing things differently in government.

One of these is more partnerships.

At a time when money is scarce these partnerships bring great initiatives to save money or make it go further.

It's the way his desire for an election in 2027 comes about.
