We are aware of recent reports regarding targeted phishing attacks that have resulted in account takeovers of some Signal users, including government officials and journalists. We take this very seriously. 1/7

I don't care if AI helps you write Welcome to The Treeline!

I don't care if #AI helps you write. The gist is that I care more about what you and the words you use are doing in the world. But there is a bit more to unpack open.substack.com/pub/thetreel...

IBM looks beyond short-term AI gains, tripling entry-level hiring The tech giant argues that increasing entry-level hiring is the only way to avoid a hollowed-out talent pipeline five years from now.

β€œThe companies three to five years from now that are going to be the most successful are those companies that doubled down on entry level hiring in this environment,” LaMoreaux said. www.cio.com/article/4134...

A class of AI critique:
The hammer broke the window.
The hammer broke in half when I ran it through a table saw.
The hammer broke my teeth when I chewed on it.
The hammer left me soaked when I used it as an umbrella.

Meanwhile:
In the right hands, the hammer helps drive nails and build houses.

Thanks, Claude Cowork for handling this: "Make sense of all the emails from our daughter's school. Create a .md file that has sections and notes per classes. An admin section about tardies, absences. See what you else you find and suggest how I can stay up to date and organized."

One day we may not even need to prefix everything with "agentic." Like when I say I saw a bird yesterday I don't need to say "but through my prescription glasses."

Fun with my Brown-headed Nuthatch photo, #RStats, eBird API, rebird package, #tidyverse and #ggplot2 packages. How many Brown-headed Nuthatches have been reported to eBird in Georgia over the last 30 days? Now I can run this on all my bird photos!

I’ve had a lot of fun working in the terminal again lately. Today I found yazi. It’s a very fast terminal file browser. Split panes in Ghostty is working pretty good. Yazi in a panel. Multiple Claude Code panels.

With bookdown.org being decommissioned, I've been working on converting #rstats books from #bookdown to #quartopub. After spending a lot of time with Claude to get it right for my two books, here's a repo that might help you do the same (especially with Claude Code):
