But maybe something else about Romulan society/ environment makes it not apparent? Like Romulans “do this already so often” that Ponn Farr just isn’t noticeable even when it happens?

Ha ha- very hard to say- The fact “all” Vulcans seem to have it and seemingly “no” Romulans have it seems unrealistic for any simple genetic difference alone on that timetable, unless there was a MASSIVE difference in reproduction for one or the other species associated with their state.
