This week's #sudoku asks "what if the fog was friendly?"

This week's #sudoku asks "what if the fog was friendly?"

Here's "Ships in the time" - another timeline #sudoku that continues on from yesterday's puzzle, and leads nicely into my (more complex) time war puzzles
logic-masters.de/Raetselporta...
Today, I'm returning to making time travel #sudoku s, with "Times Apart". This one's designed to be a simpler and smoother introduction to the timeline mechanic, combined with a familiar sandwich sums constraint.

It's been a few years, but I've returned to an old board game project, The Odysseys, with the goal of finishing it up and shipping it this year.
As a way of re-introducing the game, I've written about the game's pillars over at pdyxs.substack.com/p/the-pillar...

23.03.2025 06:21 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Alongside "Sunny, with a chance of fog", I've written up a short blog post about how I got the fog effects to work in this #sudoku puzzle (it's a bit mad). This also launches my new substack, where I'll be posting about board game and puzzle design.
pdyxs.substack.com/p/summoning-...
Today's #sudoku puzzle is based on a pretty silly idea that I couldn't get out of my head - what if I reversed the direction of dynamic fog, so you were summoning fog instead of clearing it?
The result: "Sunny, with a chance of fog"
I really like the aesthetic of blank clues outside of a #sudoku grid, where all you know is that two different clues are the same. So here's another puzzle that uses that, this time with x-sums and skyscrapers

For context: PEM is a symptom of long covid, where fatigue from over-exertion appears up to 2 days after you actually overexert yourself. The delay really screws with your innate understanding of how you can effectively pace yourself, and really changes your relationship with activity in general
05.03.2025 05:16 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Today's board game design ๐ฒโ๏ธ task: I've been wanting to make something about my experiences with Post-Exertional Malaise (PEM) for a while, and I think a board game might be the thing. Today I'm just trying out some mechanics that would represent a 'healthy' state, before I look at complications
05.03.2025 05:16 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The puzzle mechanics in this are also based on a board game design (called Time Fight) from about a decade ago that I never quite finished, and it was great to find those ideas a home.
05.03.2025 05:10 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Last week I finished making a couple of #sudoku puzzles based on the novella "This is how you lose the time war", which has you charting a time war as you solve the puzzle.
You can find the first puzzle at logic-masters.de/Raetselporta... (which then links to the second)
It's #sudoku time again! This time I've made a puzzle where some clues are wrogn (yes, that's actually what they're called in sudoku land), and you've gotta figure out which ones!
It's a bit tougher than my last puzzle but builds on a lot of the same ideas

Another foggy #sudoku puzzle, this time with whispers.
This time, some cells won't clear at all, and you need to work out where the fog will end up.
logic-masters.de/Raetselporta...
Haha yup, that was me! Thanks, this one was just a brainwave that I had one night. It's pretty wild how well it turned out!
29.01.2025 10:17 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Thanks! And yeah, I found it hard to telegraph where to look next in this format, there's quite a lot of clues to consider and go between.
28.01.2025 19:36 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0All good, I'll do that!
27.01.2025 22:52 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0@bremster.bsky.social I think this one is a bit of a smoother solve than the first one, let me know how you find it if you give it a go!
27.01.2025 08:02 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Another #sudoku, and my first straight sequel. Little Fillers 2 expands on the first puzzle, mostly by removing numbers

I'm really enjoying how the simple addition of fog grants sudoku so many of the tools from #gamedesign. In this case, giving the solver more agency over how they approach the puzzle
25.01.2025 21:47 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A new #sudoku puzzle - this one's a murder mystery! It's probably my most approachable puzzle yet (especially since you can choose how hard it is)
Give it a play over at logic-masters.de/Raetselporta...
A new #sudoku puzzle - probably the most approachable one I've made. This one evolves as you solve it in a way that I'm really happy with, slowly easing you into more complex logic as you go.
You can give this a go at logic-masters.de/Raetselporta...
The choice itself is (deliberately) pretty arbitrary in this case, as I just wanted to see what it might look like. I'm thinking about ways that I could make a future puzzle take this concept further (potentially having some sort of narrative choices mirror the solver's choices)
02.01.2025 04:34 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The approach I've taken is to make the solver's own knowledge the consequence of the choices they make. In this case, they'll learn different rules based on the path they choose, which affects how they'll eventually solve the centre of the puzzle.
02.01.2025 04:34 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Another year, another sudoku puzzle. This time I'm tackling the question of how choice might work in a sudoku. It's a bit messy, but I'm really happy with how well a lot of the concepts ended up working.

Because the word puzzle logic is about finding valid words, it's often the case that you're less certain of a part of the solution than in a normal sudoku puzzle. In future I might try to offset this by giving the words a common theme.
28.12.2024 07:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Here I was trying to create a puzzle that fully integrated the skills of solving sudoku and solving a word puzzle - either on its own isn't sufficient to solve it (though I probably lean more on sudoku logic)
