Those who know the grace of the Kingdom bear the responsibility to live what has been given, for the good of those who do not know it. Fading into the crowd is not an option.

The Clementine Vulgate reads Misericordia, where the Nova Vulgata reads Caritas, an editorial decision that interests me. There are other places in the OT where the NV makes this change.

The Trinity is treated in Part I of St Gregory of Nyssa’s Catechetical Discourse.

The Catechetical Discourse is directed to catechists, and offers to them divergent ways of presenting the Christian Mystery to diverse inquirers.

In this analogy, Nyssa stays close to the OT language around Spirit as like God’s breath. The Word, then rides on it, so to speak.

“..so too having learned of a Spirit of God, the one accompanying the Word and manifesting his activity, we do not think [he is] a panting breath..”

Gregory of Nyssa:
«But in our case the inhalation of air is the “spirit” [breath], an alien thing, necessarily being inhaled and exhaled to sustain the body, the thing that becomes the voice at the time the word is voiced out loud, manifesting the meaning of the word in itself.»

‪The current breviary reads :‬
‪“May your hand be on the man you have chosen,‬
‪the man you have given your strength.”‬
‪Like the Spanish it translates for equivalency, not retaining the phrases “right hand” and “son of man”, phrases deeply resonant with other OT and NT passages.‬
