The Vulgate translates literally what the LXX has.
The term suggests a large serpent beast that causes wonder.
The vernaculars shy away from “dragons” because,.. well they just do.

The Gk Orthodox Psalter I have says:
Praise the Lord from the earth, ye serpents, and all deeps.

Lk 17, 5-10, this Sunday.
After receiving a request from the Apostles for greater faith, the Lord moves quickly to a rather strict teaching about what it means to be an obedient servant.
This obedience unto service is perhaps where our faith is most often tested.

So much good is done in ordinary ways.

*St Francis spoke the Umbrian dialect. Most of his letters and other writings were in Latin. His style was simple and direct, suffused with Scripture, as was his life.

We must not be wise and prudent according to the flesh. Rather we must be simple, humble and pure.
