I hope it isn't something serious. Some people can be busy. I sometimes don't post because I either wake up too late, forget or I am doing homework. Just know that I think you are awesome and love your books.

05.10.2025 20:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yeah, altitude sickness hits you in variable ways. 2400 for me is easy peasy, it's just a bit over Mexico City altitude. I do however suffer migraine and dizziness when I travel through La Marquesa. I felt the same way you did at 5000, brief chest compression that eased the next day.
05.10.2025 20:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think after expected future class action lawsuits against Big 5s flood the news, authors will become very persistent publishers must either register them within a specified timeframe or risk getting sued.
05.10.2025 19:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just checked and base camp is at 5300 meters. Surpasses my personal record of 5000 when I visited Bolivia. At 4500 I felt altitude sickness that evening. Feels pretty brutal.
05.10.2025 19:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Considering the cost for tourists to reach base camp as a 8 day tour from Kathmandu, that's still a nice achievement. I'd probably barely notice the altitude by day 2, but I bet a sealevel dweller will feel dizzy. Base camp is pretty high up. π€
05.10.2025 19:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You can send a request for a copy of the cert at the US library of congress I think for 15 USD and they send it to your physical address.
05.10.2025 18:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yup. The largest grocery store is a 20 minute walk. There's like a zillion street farmers markets everywhere. 2 butchers 2 blocks away, office supplies half a block, my coworker's pharmacy that gives me discounts 1 block... A car would be cool to visit nature for photos, though.
05.10.2025 18:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I believe there is a short window in September where the rains ended and winter hasnβt started where some daring people climb at least part way up. I assume stranded are mostly at base camp along with sherpa guides.
05.10.2025 18:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0A lot of the root cause was poverty but I missed out on getting used to driving growing up. This was in an era where several HS and most college mates owned their own cars even if it was a used one. To this day, I only drive a few days once every 2 years.
05.10.2025 18:42 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I love it how I am not surprised Sparkaato is in the top.

04.10.2025 17:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0When was the affected book published? The book I registered almost 10 years ago already had a streamlined digital process. If you are pretty nifty filling out the form, signups will take you 5 minute for a single book application.
03.10.2025 02:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Lots of indies are in your situation. I urge you to consider a kickstarter to fund the 45 USD standard application. πππ
03.10.2025 02:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That is such a shortsighted argument. How would I have known 8 years ago I would be potentially facing a class action lawsuit so soon? And it makes sense I'd copyright in my country of residence. π€¦ββοΈ
03.10.2025 01:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I wonder how this will affect authors that mainly write in languages other than English. Supposidly translations to English qualified. Would have to see if there were any examples of this situation and if the beneficiaries are translator and/or author.
03.10.2025 01:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Given over 70% of the stolen works were discarded assuming duplicates don't count, this could become a huge future lawsuit. Authors from other English speaking countries and all foreign language affected works could open a new vlass action suit far bigger than this one.
03.10.2025 00:18 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Technically according to the faqs, any author in the official list can file their claim, be present in the courtroom and very theatrically sit on the stand and tell everyone they want a retrial for any reason they want.
03.10.2025 00:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I agree. I can understand the US registry requirement for statutory damages. But to discard any stolen book in any foreign language even if it otherwise qualified is a huge slap in the face to billingual authors.
03.10.2025 00:12 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ouch! So even if I had registered the one book of mine in one of the datasets, I would have been out of luck anyways because it is a Spanish translation.
03.10.2025 00:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You nag them to death. π€
03.10.2025 00:03 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ironically, a blank page representing the horror story of someone that lost their memory might actually flal within these stringent submission requirements. π€
03.10.2025 00:03 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You would have to look at the TOS of the journal, especially at the time your affected paper was accepted. Usually journals force authors to renounce ownership rights to publish. If this is not the case, the journal gets 50% the authors evenly split the 700 remaining USD.
02.10.2025 21:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I believe this will depend on what kind of academic writing this is. I can see textbooks having a good chance if its just a few authors. Science journals less so because you 'relinquish rights' as part of their TOS.
02.10.2025 20:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oops I mean here on sky. I forget the posts here are not tweets.
02.10.2025 18:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I saw the tweet, would be good to tell this to @victoriastrauss.com because the only real recourse for foreign authors like myself is to register in the US copyright office or lobby their countries to change their nation's laws to include statutory damages.
02.10.2025 17:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0It would be difficult since you'd need a PET scanner and there's only 3-5 of those machines in the entirety of Mexico, make enough recordings of fluent trilinguals to think in a specific language, separate trilinguals by similarity of language aquisition. But it would be cool.
