She fought so hard to avoid unleashing the dragons and sending them to war as she does not wish to rule over a kingdom of ash and bone. Sadly it could not be avoided and she must now fight for her birthright.

She is furious that Daemon abandoned her during her labors to plot a war she still hopes to avoid. She begins to understand her father's views on Daemon. Inevitable fighting looms nearer, finally breaking loose when Cole and Aemond move to take Rook's Rest. This is when the dragons are unleashed.

It does not stop her trying to avert it. When she nearly loses her daughter Visenya after going into labor early upon learning that her father had died and Aegon was crowned King, she realizes just how inevitable war may be. She still wants nothing done but by her consent, even as Daemon plots war.

She does not however fault her half sister Helaena as she does not blame her for anything. Helaena is too sweet and kind to have wanted any of this, in her mind. She is determined to win back her birthright, which she feels she should not have to fight for. She knows that the war cannot be avoided.

Even after becoming a mother herself, she still fears it. Her being named heir led to an outbreak of civil war within the Targaryen family. She tried to avoid bloodshed as long as she could but this plan of action failed dismally, though not for lack of trying. She despises her half brothers.

Rhaenyra Targaryen is the oldest daughter of King Viserys I Targaryen and his first wife, Aemma Arryn. She expressed, when younger, that she would rather serve as a knight than be made to be a princess with the sole duty of producing heirs. She fears this aspect of her life.
