It's been a hundred years
I've practically forgotten how all of this works

The nice thing is there are many ways for writing to be good! Read a lot of authors, analyse what you like/hate. Pratchett's acerbic whimsy, Solzhenitsyn's grimy reality, Eddings' classic fantasy, Dumas' venal nobles, [author here]... Think about their diction, plot lines, pacing, all that.

You can take one of several entire degrees trying to answer that one, I'm afraid! Creative writing, literature, classics...
My baseline is good grammar and convention, which is like the writing equivalent of being able to draw a straight line.
From there, it's "what is good art?" Many moving parts.

Wade Allen's collection is large, brilliantly documented, and generally useful to people making reproductions -- so it covers most of what you need as an artist!

Things it includes, in increasing proportion: very occasional swordfighting written by someone who fights with swords; frequent horseriding, by someone who rides horses; dialogue, by someone who sometimes talks to people; and complaints about the weather, by someone who complains about the weather.

It's NaNoWriMo time again, which means I'm back im Salzbergwerk writing The Queen's Guard, a series of novels set in something like the 17th/18th century Holy Roman Empire but fantasy: Sharpe, Wheel of Time, and German folk rock in a blender. If that seems like it might be fun, check it out?

Presenting the... sechshänder? Wiggling fingers optional. I was tooling around with sculpting it as well but didn't make much progress. Maybe later.

In an effort to be slightly more active than I usually am on social media, here's a WIP. D&D backgrounds aren't quite equipped for explaining the existence of a seven hundred year old Barbarian who is not a minor deity, so he will probably never see play, but the concept is still fun.
