i don't like when cartoon characters that aren't robots have floating limbs/hands/feet i think it's really really creepy and it has scared me since i was young i just find it really unsettling

or if something has like a cartoony stump for a lower body or something that would read fine if it was not being animated like it has bones

like where it is very much a Cartoon but it is being treated like it has bones in an inconsistent confusing way

i can't think of anything right now that really captures it i just know it when i see it. ESPECIALLY if it's like a well animated character with a lot of attention paid to its "anatomy" but it also has really distinct stylized features like 4 finger cartoon hands or floating limbs like rayman

other things that make me feel this way

like these things from cool world are viscerally disgusting to me in a really specific way. i know people overuse "fever dream" but this particular vibe makes me feel strongly like when you are a child and you have the flu

there's a quality to american cartoons in the 90s to early 2000s where they were rejecting the aesthetic of disney but still playing by the disney rules of construction and posing, while also not yet having anime influence, where everything looks really repulsive

the only new thing added to this list has been Lost Media, which is only possible in an age where EVERYTHING is supposed to be accessible and catalogued so the idea that something can be "lost" in that way is even unsettling at all

it is kind of surprising (but still makes sense) to me how "Unexplained Mysteries" television series encompasses ALL of the same topics that this genre still utilizes: alien encounters overlapping with real world violent crime overlapping with miscellaneous bizarre events.

i do enjoy spooky real world mysteries also. it is not always the case that everyone who likes to know about mysterious things is Like This. but i find that often when you get really deep into it a lot of the time in order for something to remain mysterious it requires deliberately not thinking
