If you're being generous, you might argue we left it all out there on Sunday and the tank was empty.
In reality, Newcastle have had the measure of us over both legs, and we haven't had anywhere near enough on the bench to change either of the games.
We didn't play well enough to deserve a final.

It's great when individuals who work for broadcasting outlets that have shows like 'Ref Watch' and who focus so, so much of their match coverage on refereeing decisions start wondering why there is so much focus on referees and conclude that it is because of Mikel Arteta.

Further to this point, Oliver has officiated only 41 games in this period, so his ratio is officiating around one in every four times with Arsenal.

Dunno man.
The fact Michael Oliver was also gonna be on the Arsenal vs City game suggest he was planning for the 6 point swing.
Sent off MLS against Wolves and have no doubt, he was planning some fuckery against City as well.

Red Cards in the Premier League since Mikel Arteta was appointed:
19 Arsenal
15 Wolves
13 Everton
12 West Ham, Chelsea, Brighton
11 Spurs, Aston Villa
10 Palace, Man City, Fulham, Southampton
9 Newcastle, Burnley, Sheffield United
8 Liverpool, Man Utd

Of course they are.
But Oliver and VAR fucked themselves in this game. If MLS was serious foul play, the Joao Gomes challenge was much worse and only a yellow.
Arsenal should win any appeal based on that alone, let alone the fact it should never have been a red card in the first place.

The red card came minutes after Joao Gomes was NOT shown a second yellow for a high sliding challenge, from behind, on Declan Rice that stopped an Arsenal chance at the top of the Wolves box.
By the way.

United are better against the better teams because they are a midtable team and when they come up against Arsenal, Liverpool and City they play in a reactive style much more conducive to that. When they play lower teams, they try to play above their station (imo).

After Son scored, shushed the crowd, and mimed for them to sit down, his side did not have another shot on target.
All match. He scored in the 25th minute.
So incredibly Spursy.

When Harverz had a gilt edged chance on his right foot on Sunday he went with the outside of his left and missed. Trossard got that chance on his left and didn’t hesitate. Not being two footed is a failure, especially for an attacker.

I got my season ticket in 1992 so when I say I’ve seen some great defenders I’ve seen the best. Gabriel Magalhães stands shoulder to shoulder with the best I’ve seen.

Match of the Day showing the touch by Saliba, saying they thought the decision was wrong. Interesting that the commentary said VAR instantaneously confirmed the decision. Seems VAR didn't bother looking at all the angles. Like that offside Brentford goal 2 seasons ago where they didn't draw lines.

I think that's a very generous penalty for Brighton, but that was a very tired second half performance in which we really didn't create anything.
I understand why, Brighton had more time etc, but we had so little on the bench and it again hammers home the need for January business/reinforcement

Just call after call this season given against Arsenal that you flat out NEVER SEE made against any other side.

Have never seen a ‘clash of heads’ penalty given like that. Only Arsenal get decisions like that against them. Shocking stuff in a game where Brighton have had basically nothing.

Anthony Taylor whistled angrily at Gabriel Magalhaes for starting to run towards Ethan Nwaneri to communicate with him and gesticulated for him to get back in the middle.
That's...not a duty of the referee. He shouldn't be telling players where they can and cannot run before a restart. Full stop.

PL refs should be better at controlling their emotions and not just doing what crowds tell them but we have so much evidence to suggest they’re not. Stop winding them up with the delayed setpiece thing. Getting so many yellows for this now. Tone it down ffs.

Two things that really wind me up.
1. Bournemouth being listed above Arsenal alphabetically because of a contrived ‘AFC’ prefix that literally doesn’t stand for anything
2. Shit FA Cup 3rd Round draws.
So today has triggered me.

I should move on but still unbelievably rattled by the Rice red card v Brighton because that ‘offence’ happens in literally every single game and it doesn’t even draw a comment (rightly so) but loads of people suddenly pretended they thought it was a logical decision.
