The thing is, there zero incentive for a fat person to travel with them. They are becoming like another airline, and unless they have super low prices, people are gonna go with another carrier. This, along with the baggage fee, isn't about making money, its stripping the company for parts.

Its all because SW was bought by private equity which PE has a habit of ruining businesses and making life generally awful for the public.

Private Equity is the rot of mankind, bankrupting hospitals, shuttering restaurants, etc. All the money goes back to billionaire investors who sit on it.

That's exactly what happened, and usually they would give you an extra ticket at the gate for no charge.

They are now requiring the purchase before and there's zero guarantees you'll ever get it back. I'm betting that they will make it very difficult to get your money back if the flight is full.
