Martin-Green (diplomatically) addressed some of the negative fan reaction upon STAR TREK: DISCOVERY's release: "The fanbase for the franchise as a whole and the fanbase for DISCOVERY's, in particular, is a highly intellectual, loyal crowd. These are very intelligent people who have such a depth of passion and heart and loyalty to the franchise, so they have an ownership; they’ve carried it with them for years and it’s meant a lot to them. So, because of that, their voices deserve to be heard and we appreciate their voices, even if they are in disagreement with us. Even if they’re criticising, it’s like, ‘I get where you’re coming from, though – it’s because this means a lot to you.' And there are many people who are like, ‘but I love the changes’. There’s so many different perspectives and isn’t that the whole point? That’s the whole part of diversity and inclusion, everybody’s got to be represented.I get it. I hear you. But maybe you’ll change your mind. And if not, then you’re allowed – it’s all good."

Wilson Cruz as Hugh Culber and Anthony Rapp as Paul Stamets brushing their teeth together (with bristle-less toothbrushes?) in their quarters. Both Wilson Cruz and Anthony Rapp were effusive about the toothbrushing scene that capped off "Choose Your Pain", Rapp saying: "When I first read the tooth-brushing scene, I was really, um… grateful for that chance, you know, to show something really domestic and simple and heartfelt, but also not mushy."

yeah... I was able to separate the reality out from the previous movies, this time... I don't know, the script really wanted to convince us the Warrens were the perfect couple, zero tension between them, it felt like creepy idolization

totally shocked Last Rites did so well, predictable, almost fully lacking in scares, and the gross deification of the Warrens was out of control in this one

Gates McFadden making the most of Beverly having little to do in this bridge scene other than spout medical technobabble and be (silently) awesome.

lack of Discovery characters like L'Rell or Tyler in SNW is just such a missed opportunity. it's a shame they don't delve deeper into the groundwork laid specifically in front of their own show...

I fully expected to see more of him... if Disco had stayed in the 23rd century

I keep thinking, you don't do this if you intend to move out in 3 years...

the problem goes back to the Kelvin films, they treated warp drive like Star Wars hyperspace and subsequent installments have just run with it. honestly it's fine, but yeah definitely some untouched potential in the spore drive

yeah... the spore drive really became mostly indistinguishable from warp drive, especially since warp travel has basically become BSG's FTL drive in recent incarnations of the franchise, no travel time unless absolutely necessary for drama

totally agree, I'm currently watching the jahSepp mini-arc in DIS s2 and it's just barely scratching the surface of the Mycelial network as a domain that touches all parallel realities. that's some major stuff that's mostly glossed over

that said... SNW did dabble in cosmic horror this season...

the dip in quality of storytelling between Discovery and SNW

going from SNW s3 directly into a Discovery s1-2 rewatch, the dip in quality in storytelling is depressingly apparent

this is great work

USS Discovery flies through an orange cloud with lightning as the camera moves very close to the hull. it's a lot clearer than the busier VFX in season 1, tho I know a lot of people like the more vibrant color palette.
