Geneviève describes theories, models and frameworks as critical lenses to organise thinking of #KT. These help describe knowledge uptake, what influence implementation & how to evaluate implementation. The knowledge to action model specifically highlights the process of inquiry->synthesis->tools.

Fantastic presentation from @gstrategylab.bsky.social’s Dr. Geneviève Boily-Larouche on Knowledge translation at #AARC25 - it takes up to 17 yrs for evidence to go into practice, risking suboptimal care. KT fills the gap between research, policy & practice, & accelerates evidence integration

Key messages include needing a stepwise approaches and protocols adapted to your context and resistance protocols.

They also highlight those which are currently missing in the #GLASS program, such as wounded persons.

Fantastic presentation from @msfsea.bsky.social partners describing AMR in vulnerable populations at #AARC25. They highlighted the need for governmental support to continue surveillance & adaption of treatment guidelines to local contexts and resistance trends.

Our colleagues @bethhollihead.bsky.social and @snehapaul.bsky.social are representing GEAR up at the @southcentre.bsky.social ReAct Africa 11th Annual AMR Regional Conference #AARC25 in Lusaka, Zambia this week. A brilliant opportunity to discuss all things gender and #AMR across Africa!

Wrap up of presentation highlighted the need of bridging different sectoral voices, emphasising the need for country owned process, and operationalising equity.

Interesting trends across the different NAP activities, including surveillance, education, infection prevention and control, governance, stewardship, and research investment.

Smart choice has been piloted across the continent, working with #NAP development and operational plans.

Dr. Kadia Patricca discusses #AMR National Action Plans requiring prioritisation of “high impact, feasible, and efficient” activities. Smart Choice provides a tool for prioritising activities, as quick wins, game changers, best buys, or equity drivers. #AARC25 @gstrategylab.bsky.social

Bonus: They’ve made their dataset open access! 📁A great resource for researchers working on international tobacco control and gender equity in health.

🔑 This points to a key insight: One-size-fits-all tobacco control strategies won’t work. We need policies that are both culturally sensitive and gender-responsive if we want equitable outcomes.

Here’s what stood out: Economic factors and gender equity indicators didn’t fully explain these differences. Instead, cultural context was a stronger predictor of gendered smoking behaviours 🤯

They found major variation in smoking intensity between men and women across different regions. In some places, men smoked significantly more; in others, the gap was smaller—or even reversed.

🚻 Their review found that while many studies acknowledge gendered patterns, very few actually evaluate the impact of tobacco control policies through a gender lens. That’s a big gap.
