Like it's definitely still a comedy but it's a very different comedy. It feels a lot more grounded, I guess, there's something here that's missing from the rest, and something in the rest that was not missing here.

The first Ice Age movie feels like such a stark contrast from its sequels like goddamn.

Oh yeah it completely undermines the original, to the point where they really should've just made a different movie.
Thing is, I don't have an issue with remakes and derivative works on principle, but so many have just backwards priorities with what they do and don't change.

How to Train Your Dragon, on the other hand, is just about all A. The only real change is the medium, it's pretty one-to-one, and while it's a great movie, it's a great movie that already exists. While one may prefer the visuals, that's really the only thing there is to prefer.

Lilo and Stitch, or a lot of recent public-domain horror movies, are a strong example of B, where they use an IP for the sake of brand recognition, but only bother with surface level stuff and do nothing with theming.

It's hard to pin down exactly what makes live action adaptations so upsetting, but I'd say it's usually that A) They tend to come from the view that animation is a more niche medium which is innately inferior/immature, and B) They often prioritize branding and imagery over the themes of the story.

I could just keep drawing naked women. No real reason not to. They're pretty.

Thanks! Canonically, they're magic and they move, meaning I never have to worry about making them consistent! That being said, this is easily the best they've ever looked, I'm really happy with how she came out.

Man it was such a whiplash going from Tales of Graces to Tales of Arise with my friends bc like.. Arise does not have any gay subtext whatsoever, whereas Graces the entire party is unaware that Hubert is the only straight one

I watched it when I was I think 9, whenever it was airing on Nicktoons. My introduction to the franchise had been Kai, on the same channel, and I LOVED Kai, it was like nothing I'd ever seen.
