And the winner of our 2025 Women’s Poetry Competition is ‘Owl fever’ by Joanne Key! Of this poem, Liz Berry says, ‘It’s immediately compelling: taut, propulsive and deeply eerie…As I finished reading ‘Owl fever’, I wanted only one thing: to read it again, and then more of this poet’s work.'

In second place is ‘Portrait of my daughter as postmortem with needle’ by Kizziah Burton! Liz Berry praises this ‘deeply complex, troubling, heart-aching poem about a beloved daughter lost to brutality.’

In third place is, ‘Email’ by Zara Chang! Liz Berry says, ‘Here is a dreamy, rebellious list poem of all the pleasurable, ordinary, decadent and subversive things my recipient might be found doing instead.’

Let’s hear it for the winner of our Unpublished Poet Prize, Amy-Jane Burrell for her poem ‘Point X’. Judge Liz Berry says, ‘I love poems which use dual languages and ‘Point X’ by Amy-Jane Burrell is a wonderful example.’ ❤️
