This week’s OSCE Human Dimension Committee meeting highlighted challenges to the rights of freedom of peaceful assembly and association in the OSCE area. Good practices and key policy recommendations and measures to be taken by the OSCE and participating States were identified.

New report concludes; Russia has committed enforced disappearances and torture that constitute crimes against humanity. Sexual violence is used as torture in detention, with female detainees particularly vulnerable. We thank UN Independent International Commission in Ukraine for today’s briefing.

OSCE Human Dimension Committee: despite absolute ban, torture & other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment exists and remain widespread & systematic in parts of the #OSCE area. The situation is particularly alarming in the context of Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.
