Our MicrobiomeKG paper is finally fully published! A knowledge graph connecting microbes with host health.
It's been a joy to mentor and work with Skye Goetz. This is her first paper as first author! Likewise, always great working with Amy Glen. 🧪

We had a lovely celebration today at ISB, for Mary.
Beyond the work and the prize, it is worth highlighting that Mary is always friendly, collected, thoughtful, and very humble.
Such a delight to see her recognized!!

Excellent. Made me wonder about a potential distinction between aged individuals that “show their age” in their gut, and aging individuals with a still largely young microbiome. FMT might have very different effects on them?

Atul Butte died yesterday.
The world lost a giant.
A big bear of a man.
With a huge smile.
With love for everyone.
With energy that could power a room.
I loved everything about Atul.
I loved how he was always happy.
I loved how excited he was about science and helping people.

Breakthrough in search for HIV cure leaves researchers ‘overwhelmed’ Exclusive: Melbourne team demonstrates way to make the virus visible within white blood cells, paving the way to fully clear it from the body A cure for HIV could be a step closer after researchers found a new way to force the virus out of hiding inside human cells. The virus’s ability to conceal itself inside certain white blood cells has been one of the main challenges for scientists looking for a cure. It means there is a reservoir of the HIV in the body, capable of reactivation, that neither the immune system nor drugs can tackle. Continue reading...

When talking about cancer diagnosis (e.g., pathology on biopsies) positive results are indeed negative, and negative results are positive.
It is indeed very confusing. In fact, my first sentence could be read in two different ways…
