Draft 2 of book 1 in my fantasy trilogy is done. The manuscript grew by less than 1K, but that was not the objective--it was figuring out whether the story makes sense. It sorta seems to. I have notes for the next round. Now, I have a query package to finish 🫣

I've finished writing ch. 1 of my fantasy trilogy book 2, draft 1. Does it mean I have finished draft 2 of book 1? No. Or that my pitch package for THYD is ready? Also no. Or that I've finished drafting my novella? Um, nope.
But it's 1.3K words today. Progress!

I got this in a fortune cookie on Saturday and at first I thought, "I've planned my querying well, so this is good!". And then I remembered: the expected results are that I will get rejected by all the agents I query 😞 So I guess I hope my fortune cookie was wrong 😒

I've revised 19 chapters of the 1st book in my fantasy trilogy. Draft 2, right? Still ways to go.
And what have I just done, having barely gone through some 70% of the 1st round of revisions of book 1?
I've begun writing book 2, of course. Couldn't help myself.

Is this prompted by a tumblr mutual of mine reblogging criminal amounts of a certain new TV show? Yes. And it's not like I'm going to unfollow a mutual of many years over this, but god, just chill please.

I've always considered myself a pretty open-minded person as far as topics in the media I consume are concerned, but I'm discovering I have an allergic reaction to media centred around sports. Like, consume your gay hockey romance all you want, but please stop shoving it in my face.

Yay me for: a) missing a typo in edits; b) going on to post the precise bit with the typo on my socials in both the image and alt text 🤦🏻‍♀️ I clearly got overexcited by my own story 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was just going over chapter 15 in my fantasy trilogy book one (draft two), and I have to say, I love the interactions between Zora and Iluaneh in this one. Not sure anyone else would agree, but I can at least amuse myself with my writing.

The closer it gets to January, my self-imposed deadline to query my novel, the less convinced I am I should pursue tradpub at all. The less convinced I am that my novel has any value.

Wrote a draft of the synopsis for my pitch package, so great, that's progress, but also it's 685 words, which is too long. But summarising the plot of a 135K-word manuscript in 500 is a challenge.

But also, I can't have a more positive attitude if I want to come out of the trenches without my spirit crushed. With the industry being as competitive as it is, a dose of pessimism (or realism, rather) is advisable. Right?

I need to get my pitch package ready within the next few weeks if I want to query my novel in January, but I can't force myself to do it and keep procrastinating. The fact that I'm approaching this with the assumption I'll get rejected isn't necessarily helpful.

one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.

Excerpt from manuscript: I sigh. Or grumble. There's a noise coming out of my throat, either way. This entire day's the suckiest I've ever experienced at Lancashire House. Not that any day here is ever a picnic. I also have never had a picnic, to my knowledge. It's all just get up, eat the slop they call breakfast that smells like farts and tastes like, thankfully, nothing in particular, then go to the labs and brew, brew, brew. Follow instructions, learn recipes by heart. Pick up speed. Improve on recipes, if you're smart enough. I, obviously, am hardly so. I can barely measure out the things I get handed and get distracted, startled, or confused about half the time. At least a third. Sure, I can do the basic stuff: brew poisons, face creams, and ointments for hemorrhoids, but the cool things? Truth serums, strengthening tonics, and immortality tinctures? All beyond me.

I shouldn't be getting excited about this story. I should be prepping my pitch package, revising my fantasy project, writing my novella, but no - my brain says we're writing this now 🤷🏻‍♀️

First round of editing on my fantasy project (book one of a trilogy) is progressing, currently at chapter 7. There'll definitely be far more serious edits in draft three, but so far, the story is making sense (I think), which is a start.
