Sierra Leone’s ecotourism dream goes up in smoke | The Observer

This makes me sad, my visit to Sierra Leone inspired me to start my Pgce and this beach was at the time the most amazing beach I had ever been to... Great article for impacts of development and sustainability! πŸ₯Ή

Troubled Waters? Rights of access to the foreshore - Brecher The legal status of beaches in this country is more complicated than you might think. See our Q&A on rights of access to the foreshore in England and Wales. 1) What is the foreshore? The foreshore is ...

How many of us geography teachers talk about access to beaches as common land...? I certainly thought it was, but it's not always. www.brecher.co.uk/news/trouble...

This links to a private land owner preventing access to beaches... Who owns land- big question!

I think assumptions around 'cultural capital' are also a barrier. We as teachers can assume knowledge of the world because many of us have had the privilege of travel and experience of different places and people but don't of my students hadn't even been to the beach in the UK...

I think one of the barriers that I have seen (having worked in very deprived schools) is that parents hear 'geography leads you to do almost any job' but actually hear 'it leads you to nothing'. Students don't have the privilege of risking 'nothing in particular'. Lots of communication needed!

I'm trying to work out this question... Am I wrong in thinking this question doesn't work. I'm thinking they want to locate it on one grid square (1km by 1km), but that's not the same as 2sets of 500m2? One grid square is 1million M2 isn't it? @fiona-sheriff.bsky.social @geodougie.bsky.social
