Dear @bsky.app can we have a bit less of cats and dogs (and weirdos posting weird stuff) and a bit more of relevant information ? Otherwise I’m liking it. Thanks

A before and after collage of a street in central London. The before is an asphalt-dominated three-lane thoroughfare. The after a lush green pedestrian zone with seating.
We shouldn’t have to escape the city for a daily dose of nature, no matter how short or small.
By challenging the privilege of the car on our streets, we create new opportunities for re-greening them; thus boosting our physical, mental, and social well-being.

Pointe du Raz
Pointe du Raz, Britanny, France. Home of the Raz de Sein, a dangerous stretch feared by sailors for its tidal currents (visible in the photo, at descending tide). Never seen something like that before. All the fierce power of the ocean in that little corner of the world.

The dangers of sitting: why sitting is the new smoking
The less sitting or lying down you do during the day, the better your chances for living a healthy life.
At school, we were repeatedly instructed to "sit still", and this became embedded in our lives as a cardinal virtue. We now know that sitting still is highly damaging to our health. Perhaps it's time we told children to do the opposite.

bar chart showing deaths associate with extreme heat with and without climate change in 12 European cities
About 1500 of the approx. 2300 people that will have lost their lives across 12 European cities last week would still live, if it wasn't for our burning of oil, coal and gas. If we care about the right to life, we need to stop burning fossil fuels. www.imperial.ac.uk/grantham/pub...

Our oceans are dying right in front of our eyes
"Warmer waters hold less oxygen, leading to mass fish die-offs such as those seen in Tuscany in 2024. And, as fish dive deeper to escape the heat on surface, they can’t be reached by seabirds, then die off in their masses, too"
