Crossing a >300x threshold in major satellite repeat RNA expression disrupts heterochromatin & triggers mitotic failure & cell death.

Using a dCas9 system, the Jenuwein lab reveals that MSR transcription levels govern chromatin structure in mice.

New paper from our lab! Fabulous and brilliant @carlosalfonsog.bsky.social and @shimengjin.bsky.social, together with fantastic co-authors, show that the neuronal protein ELAV promotes biogenesis of circular RNAs in the brain. This happens through inhibition of forward ("classical") splicing.
