05.03.2026 07:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Important to lead with the headline that Arsenal are the βvillains of the title raceβ and would be βunpopular championsβ as they go up against the team charged with 115+ counts of cheating to gain an unfair competitive advantage over the other premier league teams.

FPL managers - I need your help.
Iβm working with researchers on a project into the psychology of FPL managers.
Weβre first developing a measure of FPL motivations and need responses.

Attacker stands in front of the keeper in the 6 yard box and doesnβt move. Blocking, or existing?
Defender or keeper comes over and muscles him out the way. Penalty?
How do you reconcile teams βblockingβ with a footballerβs right to exist on a football pitch?

03.03.2026 15:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I would say top of the open play GD and xGD, and top of the overall GD and xGD is title-winning fine
03.03.2026 15:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Probably π but history has shown us that teams will do whatever they can within the rules to get an edge. Look at Cityβs rotational tactical fouling theyβve got away with for years for example.

Yep - people donβt realise what theyβre asking for
You canβt stop what weβre doing unless you completely nerf set pieces by e.g having a completely different physical threshold for attacking vs defending
Yep, they should do that. And then you canβt defend set pieces in the same way - what do you think happens next?
03.03.2026 13:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This feels like something which sounds good in theory but would be a horrendous shit show in practice

I think Cityβs decade-old βinnovationβ with tactical fouling has been far more ruinous to the enjoyment of watching football than us being good at set pieces.
I donβt recall the rules book-changing outcry we have gotten over something actually against the rules/spirit of the game.
Itβs weird.
You are going to get games that suck ass regardless unfortunately - they just turn into 0-0 games instead.
02.03.2026 14:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Counterpoint - Villa are actually shite and have been riding the wave all season to this point

01.03.2026 20:12 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah I guess the point (as a response to your original point) is that the offensive fouling is a response to defensive fouling - if you remove both you still get a hell of a lot of set piece goals, maybe even more.
01.03.2026 20:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
As I said though if you canβt defend on the edge physically itβs another advantage to the attacking team so you just see more set piece goals as a result.
The defending team benefits disproportionately from the reluctance to call fouls, imo
This works both ways though - if you start calling the offensive fouls you also call the defensive ones and we end up with a lot of penalties, or people stop defending physically and we have a bunch more set piece goals.
Pick your poison
Remarkable that Chelseaβs recruitment team spent so much money on the collectively the most braindead group of players known to man.

West Ham were more than competitive yesterday despite the scoreline
I think they have it in them to put something together. Forest Iβm not so sure.
