as someone disabled, it's moderately easier. saves time to use an all in one. my hair is relatively short and cut often, so i'm not worried about hair care as much as scalp care, and have found no problems with the all in one i use (from old spice). for me, a matter of using therefore buying less.

yup that would do it too. water is important. sometimes hard for me to drink enough of it either, but it's important. also electrolyte packets like liquid iv can help on the proper hydration front (if doctor says they're alright, I know that stuff starts to get interestingly all jumbled up)

okay, so not everything. however, autism & adhd & trans people is a big chunk of things. the situation with the shared care stuff & the public private split is just really whack when it breaks down like this.

everything i hear about the nhs in the uk is so very broken.

meanwhile my adhd & autism dx in the us on medicaid (insurance for poor people) were both v straightforward w/ kaiser. do screening questionnaire, turn it in, talk to the psych for about an hour, congratulations you're obvs adhd/autistic.

not that well off especially considering we live in suburban Los Angeles which is a fucking expensive shit hole.

sufficient, was supposed to be the last word of that post.

it's not enough to support two people, pay bills, replace at least one pair of glasses for each of us (given that the cheapest my glasses get (including necessary transitions coating) is approximately $600)…

even with SNAP, we're still…

#3GoodThings

1. my spouse & our dork face cat.

2. getting used to the workflow of the semester.

3. having ssdi, even if it's still wildly not enough.

getting done at her time-table, or not at all. so it doesn't matter what i wanted to cook, for instance, because the pan & dishes are dirty and i can't do that part on my own.

hooking up with her ex. (at least it was the good one not the asshat.)

she regularly shows up late, wanders off to the curb to smoke and ends up back inside an hour later, all sorts of delays.

we can't really do much about it because we're dependent on her for these care tasks, so things end up…

oh & as of everything else wasn't enough, we still need a secondary #IHSS worker, because our current worker is… somewhat unreliable.

as in today she told us she was going to show up in the afternoon at late morning.

in the late afternoon she apologised that doing her laundry had turned into…

also if it's someone who blocks me can i at least get the courtesy of knowing who is blocking me to that I can take a moment & reverse block in kind.

it's good they're making it less evident to block evasion but sometimes when there's actual physical-world violence that's taken place, knowledge…

stress can make your body do lots of dysfunctional things. i'm glad that it's mostly better, though. just do what you need to support your body, follow dr advice re kidneys etc.

i wish every instance were that easy to fix lol.

17.02.2026 07:47 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

while i appreciate the thorough way that bsky handles blocks, if someone quotes a post and i blocked the poster i would like an opportunity to view anyway.

i block people for my own safety; sometimes that safety includes seeing what's currently going on now, or there is new context, whatever.

Los Angeles truancy laws are a joke. i got caught by them in 2001 for the May Day protests, then in 2004 protests again, and then in 2006 & 2007 for medical absences that were excused/had doctor notes every single time; they still tried to bully my parents into agreeing to the charges.

(the recent MRI from friday interpreted "results" are in and as usual, this has been missed entirely. it makes me wonder what other things on imaging get just fucking missed on a routine basis.

i shouldn't have to learn enough to read a fucking MRI even the bit i did, just to advocate for myself.)

yeah. i'm not a very good learning experience for the medically complicated part if i'm projecting someone else entirely's bullshit onto it.

that's an entirely other learning experience, which comes with time & is not usually productive for what the med students/brand new doctors are there for.

i'm guessing it's a detector program he uses as first pass. problem is there's just only so many ways to write dick & jane style verse lol. so it starts pinging the detector programs (i run my own work through a couple of them and a plagiarism checker before submission).

oh and thanks to the torrential rains today i had to miss my urology clinic visit, where i was supposed to get the prescription for catheters.

so i can stop sitting on the toilet for the forty-five minutes to an hour it takes me to empty my bladder the old fashioned way. fucking damn it.

And what about our unhoused neighbors?

ooof. be gentle with yourself. choose a couple of things that are concrete, that you can add to your day. hot tea/beverage of choice. nice body wash. all the corny self-care shit can help me reconnect.

also turning off the news for 24 hours, which sounds awful, but can help. take care of you first.

add the note. stop & make have direct conversation that is going to be a profoundly unpopular opinion & that saying to use ai like that is basically admitting a lack of integrity.

only thing i do is briefly check that the med student isn't in an age/gender range that's going to trigger me.

my doctor prescreens lol. knows that no white cis people over 50. triggers from my parents/grandparents aren't fair to them.

men are subject to a vibe check, sometimes fine sometimes no.

generally the first time they've ever interacted with an adult AAC user & definitely with the AAC user being the patient & no guardianship etc.

some of them do really well! some of them I stop them at some point & tell them that okay let's call it a day there, because they're not getting it.

17.02.2026 00:46 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

best part is that they are new to me people therefore right back to AAC & complicated communication, autism's lovely we don't know how to function interactions, etc.

beyond being medically complex I'm a lesson in communication, since it's a flip chance I'm talkative or shove my list at them.

17.02.2026 00:46 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

fucking mood. as long as i am not entirely overextended i'll say yes to med students/new doctors, & a couple of times when i am flat out over everything i've said yes because maybe the med student will see it in a new way & they're new enough they still care rather than seeing it as waste of time.
