i’m definitely not articulating this particularly well and it’s 4am, but this is all to say that i should just think i’ve achieved enough. it’s time to stop neglecting my life for points on a leaderboard. maybe i will return to ranked at some point but right now i just feel tired and defeated

has really taken toll on my already eroded mental health. not trying to insinuate that all of the time spent was time wasted, but i did almost fail a class last semester because i was playing ranked for 10 hours a day trying to get netherite and then 2100 and then top 1 or whatever

and now, i feel déjà vu from that time because i feel like i peaked and now i’m just sort of looking for some other thing to progress through and become good at. except that things have changed. suddenly, i’m in college and being this obsessed about ranked and elo and phase points…

when i was running celeste, i was super motivated since i was improving rapidly and i felt like i was improving much more rapidly than my peers. that was until i sort of plateaued and i stopped feeling validated or whatever, and i just sort of burnt out and started running mc instead.

and i messed up the thread oops

this isn’t to diminish anyone else’s achievements, and me having this mentality means that i end up comparing myself to others in my head. back when i ran celeste, i would track my progress alongside all of the runners i friended and likewise, i was doing the same thing with ranked…

i’ve always thought of speedrunning in terms of my achievements and i’ve always compared myself to others, and let myself have this sense of superiority over other runners, which is an interesting mentality to have because if i’m being honest, my achievements aren’t anything remarkable…

i don’t regret spending practically every bit of my free time speedrunning for the past 5 years and i am grateful having met so many cool people throughout the years in both communities i was in, and this isn’t to say that i’m gonna stop talking to those people. it’s just that…

- new laptop, start actually getting somewhat good at ranked
- hit netherite + a bunch of cool stuff happened during season 6 like uhh idk winning weekly twice
- start burning out of mc
- where i am at now…

- i was still running celeste, i was trying to get 26
- kinda burn out of celeste
- start running mc more
- current celeste any% pb in august 2023
- i think i start playing ranked around this time
- start running mc exclusively…

- watched a 1.7 run on gdq by he who shall not be named in like mid 2019
- completed my first ever celeste run in december 2019 during class with a 1:10
- pandemic hit so i just started grinding celeste while in online class
- exclusively ran celeste until april 2022 when i ran fsg…

timeline is:
- discovered speedrunning by watching terraria runs by ningishu in 2018 when i was like 11 lol
- played hollow knight for the first time and started watching hollow knight runs
- played celeste for the first time and started watching celeste runs…
