Trump's self-dealing is truly off the scales β€” eclipsing even the biggest corruption scandal of the First Gilded Age.

Why is Doug Ford changing OSAP?

It's simple: he is trying to balance the post-secondary books on the backs of low and middle income students and their families.

His changes to OSAP will cost students up to $3500 more per year in debt.

We deserve affordable education.

World events put academicsΒ and journalists under pressureΒ  - University Affairs At a time when news is always breaking and disinformation is on the rise, a conference explores the precarious relationship between academia and the media.

"Journalists have to tackle complex topics…often outside their area…while meeting ever-tighter deadlines.
Under these conditions, researchers become key resources [and] can facilitate fact-checking, add nuance to analysis, or prevent leaps of logic.”

The "publish or perish" culture must perish. Scientists need time to think.

We just published our Slow Science Manifesto, where we argue that huge changes are needed in the way we fund, publish, and evaluate science.

Why are UK universities failing? - LSE Impact The HE sector in the UK faces the prospect of a university going into administration. How have universities fallen so low and is change possible?

Poor political decisions, a broken funding model, managerial leadership, and metric‑driven governance, which together are transforming the sector into something barely recognisable as a public university system by Constantinos Alexiou and George Saridakis

I guess Governor if the USA annexes Alberta.

"A key figure in Alberta’s separatist movement said Premier Danielle Smith indicated to him that if the province goes it alone she’d stay on as its leader. And the title she’d prefer in the role is prime minister."

This is a huge win for higher ed! Unfortunately, many institutions complied in advance and already folded many of their DEI efforts. This is an example of why it’s so important to resist until there is no other option. Most of the programs that were terminated won’t be resurrected. What a loss.
