On this day in 1849, and at the age of 40, Edgar Allan Poe died. He was a formative inspiration to me as a writer, so I wrote the following ode as a way to honor his work.

I see your point, but I'd argue Nixon was fascist or at the very least heading in that direction. He and Kissinger committed atrocious acts in Cambodia, Chile, and civil rights here in the U.S.

While I'm not worried specifically about Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, as they have the means to fight or move on to other projects, I am worried about the many people their shows employ.

Every person can do big or small things. You can use your voice and your humanity in a number of ways. Help mutual aid orgs. Follow progressives and spread their messages here and elsewhere. If you are able, help people who need it.

Freedom of speech isn't dead. What is deemed as unacceptable speech and the consequences thereof, however, have changed.

Capitalists will capitulate. That's the nature of the beast.

Since the mechanics of this fight are capitalism, as they've always been here, we use capitalism to fight back.

Analyzing the ways in which people choose to put their words together and what they are actually saying is sentence diagramming on another level. They contain multitudes of biases.

Two thoughts:

First, any act of violence is inherently political. It's an act to claim power, or an attempt to reclaim power, over a person or group.

Second, to claim that political violence is never the answer is an attempt to provide a shield to a particular group.

Both are governing policies.

Reminder that Thomas Massie voted against the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act in 2013 and again in 2021.

Attaching himself to the Epstein files now with his shitty voting record feels very performative.

Beware the wolf in sheep's clothing.

It begs the question: What's worthy of our time and lives in this moment and the future?

If they've enabled oppressive practices and policies, perhaps we build fresh when all this is over.

The founding fathers wrote on behalf of the white men of their time, and I don't think they saw beyond that.

As we progress in our current political climate, I find myself less concerned with how to save the "democratic" institutions that never served everyone and have so easily fallen into corrupt hands.

Perhaps our efforts are better spent in considering how we create new and better institutions.

Keep the pressure on them!

They will try to rehab their image with a new CEO, but if they continue to capitulate to the far right, nothing will actually change.
