Every time you think this industry can't get any worse, they still find ways to dig even deeper: Digital Hearts is now offering MCQ-based translations, so you can just take your pick from a selection of AI-generated garbage TLs for each line instead of, you know, properly translating them.

This, absolutely. So many people think that translation is "just replacing words", but there's so much more to it. A translator translates meaning, not just words. AI doesn't understand meaning, it only recognises words.

On ne la présente plus. Immense femme de lettres qui s’est surtout illustrée dans la littérature SFFF. Elle a commis Terremer, Les Dépossédés, La Main gauche de la nuit, Danser au bord du monde. Une oeuvre pleine de sagesse et d’humanité.
Le mot "nonchalant" est le participe présent de "nonchaloir": non+chaloir! Or "chaloir" signifie "s'inquiéter de" (il vient du latin "calere", être chaud). On le retrouve dans des tournures vieillies type "peu me chaut" (voilà, je l'ai appris récemment donc vous aussi maintenant!)

The original expression was "tomber dans les pâmes" - "pâmer" being an archaic French verb which meant "to faint". At this point, nothing to do with apples whatsoever.
But over time misuse gave way to convention and "pâmes" became "pommes", the accepted spelling 🍎
