A High & Low rewatch is necessary.

Last watched it on the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto

Not that I give them an excuse. Just stop making them.

Why is this a snag in a series where he meets Blofeld for the first time ever in 2 consecutive movies; rejuvenates 15 years between San Francisco & Gibraltar, stays the same age for 6 years between Isthmus City and the bungee jump in Russia, & had his 1st assignment 43 years AFTER his 2nd one?!!

I could happily live in a world without any more new Bond, new Dr Who, new Shakespeare productions, Star Wars spin offs/films, or Sherlock Holmes adaptations…& I’ve enjoyed all of them, in part or in whole, in the past.

12 years on and I’m still WTF?!! about it (and Enemy) coming back. 😳

Even now, I still remember the audience bursting into laughter on Ken’s β€œI am Victor Von Frankenstein!” and that was that. Two hours of scoffs & groans followed - it was relentlessly unforgiving πŸ˜©πŸ˜‚

Love Humbug.

But seriously underwhelmed by the later Jose Chung & Postmodern Prometheus, when the deconstruction became glib.

Humbug, Die Hand… & Clyde Bruckman hold the line nicely.

Isn’t Hawks & Doves his 12th…?

If Rust, then totally with you - it’s superb.

Patricia Arquette’s notes to Lynch about what she thought was happening are superb.

I still think that intro lift is such audacious brilliance. It worked for The Beatles.

No one was nuts enough to go Bowie to hear soul music or New Wave or drum & bass - that’s clearly not what he was about. It was just him adopting a mutant/hybrid vocab for his weirdo pop πŸ˜‚

It’s all in a long tradition of Bowie albums. Like, Young Americans does NOT sound like Philly Soul. And Low certainly doesn’t NOT sound like Kraftwerk. But, again, the hacks made so many lazy assumptions to get copy out

25.09.2025 14:22 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Earthling doesn’t sound like any other 90s dance/rock, beyond one cheeky reference to Prodigy’s Firestarter.

Outside only sounds like NIN fleetingly. Bowie’s vocals are cool/remote, Trent’s passionate/frenzied. The music is more ambient & jazz influenced than industrial.

The hacks had to hack.

What were the odds on an 18-year-old seeing a cover and taking a punt and then getting a fecking revelation?! I just remember seeing it out of the corner of my eye β€˜is that a hand in peacock feathers - what is that? Scott Walker sounds like a cool name.’ That’s all it took πŸ˜‚

My first listens to both these were incredible. My then-girlfriend had Outside on cassette & I was just staggered by it when she played it.

Tilt I bought purely cos I noticed the cover art. I actually wept playing it on the bus home on my discman.

Grace Jones beat them to the cover. Funtime would have been cool though.

Jim’s lyric is deffo using a mixed relationship as a metaphor for western chauvinist imperialism. It’s a pity DB does the eye-stretch joke in the actual fecking video though…..
