Sunset at the End of the Creek
Shot on the Oregon Coast just north of Yaquina Head, where a rocky creek runs across the beach and directly into the Pacific Ocean. Vertical color photograph: the creek starts at the bottom of the frame, and runs to the ocean, curving gently to the viewer's left and then more sharply to the right before reaching the tide line. The water is clear. There are rocks, including a small boulder about a third of the way up front the image bottom and on the right, scattered in the creek bed, providing the dominant foreground interest. The rocks Peter out as the creek makes its leftward turn about 2/3s of the way up the frame. The final rightward sweep of the creek leads the eye to the sun setting in a blaze of orange over the Pacific Ocean, rays reaching out across the sea to touch the waves and the beach. The sun is reflected in the water at the tide line. The ocean waves are gentle. Above the sun are two thin lines of clouds parallel to the horizon. Above them are some wispy, horsetail clouds, as the sky transitions from orange to blue.

A cloudless October pre-sunrise scene with Mount Hood, from the Jonsrud Viewpoint in Sandy, OR. Horizontal color photograph. Layers of tree covered hills and mountains rise from the Sandy valley in the foreground. At the horizon line, about 1/3 the way up the frame, a freshly snow-covered Mount Hood rears above the surrounding mountains. Behind its conical form, the sky starts orange at the horizon, then transitions to yellow and then to white and finally blue. You can see a faint shadow in the sky to the left of the mountain peak: it's cast by the mountain itself, as the sun is still below the horizon. Sun Rays Cutting Through Morning Fog, Sandy River, OR
Vertical black-and-shite photograph: Perspective is looking down into the valley from a high point. Tall evergreens cut the sunlight into sharp rays that filter through the morning fog along the Sandy River. The tree are in the upper right of the composition, and the beams come diagonally down into the frame, extending to the bottom. Following the sun rays take your eyes down into brightly lit billowy clouds low over the forest and river. Along the bottom part of the image, the half lit Sandy River comes in the from the center of the frame, moving up and then curving to the viewer's left to exit the frame in shadow about 1/3 of the way up. The rest of the frame is forest, softened by the morning mist, even where the sun isn't highlighting it.
Taken from Jonsrud Point in Sandy Oregon, which allows you to look across the Sandy River Valley to Mount Hood. The weather forecast hinted at the possibility of a stunning sunrise, but the promised bits of cloud did not appear anywhere near the right part of the sky. Fortunately, fog and mist along the river provided some interesting scenes.

Everything's In Motion
While I've not quit got the hang of intentional camera movement imagery (ICM), I occasionally manage to get something interesting with unintentional camera movement (UCM). In this case, I misjudged how far the waves were still coming up the beach while shooting the post sunset sky, and the water pulling the sand from around the tripod legs caused it to sink during the shot.
Color photograph: wavelets on a dark sandy shore lead the eye from the lower left corner of the image diagonally into the frame. Near the mid frame they interest with a darker area of wallets and above that, the vibration oranges transitioning to purples and then blues in the post-sunset sky. The ghosting and blurs caused but eh combine slow shutter speed and camera movement soften the image, giving it a more impressionistic feel.
